I booked this sunset cruise for two reasons:1) seemed most handicapped accessible on line (parents use a walker and cane) 2) No loud music on board. We took my parents who are in their 80ās, sensitive to loud sounds, and have limited mobility on this trip.
They were welcomed on board by the crew. They made my mom feel like a queen. She was treated with kindness while boarding and then dotted on by the crew the entire time we sailed. They took her walker below and made sure she was comfortable.
What a joy it was to just enjoy the sights and sounds of sailing!! To hear the ocean lapping on the sides of the ship or the seagulls squawking as they fly by was a real treat.
We enjoyed the shooting the cannons! They have two and when the other captain on a boat sailing by bent over like he was hit, we laughed and laughed!!
The clouds didnāt cooperate and the sunset was blocked but we still had spectacular skies to view. The colorful skies over the keys was beautiful. The weather was great!!
There is a bathroom on board, you must go down a few steps to get there. My parents did not use the āheadā as the cruise was two hours and they were fine.
Not having loud music playing was very enjoyable as we could hear the captain telling us things about the ship, the islands, the sea life, and we could hold conversations.
Water and simple snacks were provided. Crew was super pleasant and very helpful. Parking was close to check in location. There are discount coupons if you look for them.
We did enjoyed this trip and will do it again when we return to Key West! We loved this trip!! It is a must do if you enjoy the sea, the sun, and lots...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy dad and I decided to take the sunset cruise on the Jolly II Rover on a whim and it ended up being a highlight of our trip. We were initially discouraged by the cloudy skies and high winds, but the second we met the crew, all worries were carried away with the sea breeze. The crew was consistently vigilant of not only the ship and its sails, but also of our enjoyment and comfort (*applause for Elijah and Renee, and the other amazing crewmates). They often offered blankets, snacks, and water, as well as dad jokes and interesting facts about boats and keys on the horizon. Each crew member was genuinely intent on getting to know us and put their whole selves into their work. The sunset ended up being wonderful (as they always are in Key West) and the night ended with the traditional cannon shot which was amazing to witness. A ride on the Jolly II Rover tailors to your inner child and adult self alike, and we look forward to our next trip out with the crew.
EDIT: We took a second sunset sail with the rest of our family and it was once again amazing! We loved sailing with and getting to know Capt. Raquel, Drew, and Oscar, as well as watching them learn āthe ropesā from one another (literally and figuratively). There was much more cannon fire this time and plenty of oceanic dad jokes to go around. We have all agreed to sail with the Jolly ii Rover on all future visits to the keys, for every time is unexpectedly beautiful and brings along a new cast of crew mates with welcoming personalities and professionalism. Thank you again for a great sail and may the winds be ever...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt's always hard to capture a sunset in its full glory using a smart phone.... So feel free to look at the pictures and just realize it's prettier than this.
So onto the main point though the crew was very friendly and they had a newer hire on board literally "learning the ropes" which don't be scared about that the experienced people are there also... And they even let people on the boat hoist the sails they just tell you which rope and when to pull it ... My point is this newbie was in absolute heaven it seemed which just made the ride that much better seeing his honest extreme joy just to be there on the boat and with this crew. The rest of the crew were also very happy to be there and it also showed.
You do start from the dock under motor but after you get out there it's all sail which is just IMHO is so much more relaxing.
There is a bathroom on the ship... If you are curious.
They fire cannons... Which means you have to cover your ears... Which makes it difficult to hold your camera... They have like a couple sets of ear protectors but IMHO maybe pack some earplugs so you can get good video of the cannons.
They have coolers of water onboard which is nice I suggest an insulated water bottle for key West as my water was always warm so when they offered me ice cold water.... Lol I was ON IT.
It was just a fantastic trip... Our 3rd boat ride here we did dry tortugas and a glass bottom also and this was our groups...
