What can I say about Ruby’s that hasn’t already been said about Somolia? Poor, depleted, no food... or at least no good food. I feel the .70 cents per day Somoli diet would have fed me better than this liquid bowel inducing excuse for food that I was served... now I know what you are thinking... “cmon bro it couldn’t be that bad”... well Chad and Gary yes, yes it was that bad.
Upon entry I was warned by absolutely nothing... there is no heat in this establishment... it’s 7 degrees outside... luckily the waitress informed me that “the heat don’t work, well it didn’t work but I think I can make it work... let me see if it can work”... newsflash, it didn’t work at all... which means me and my sick crew were almost as cold as the “food” I was served. When the small heater above me began to crack open I seriously feared a small critter would fall out, instead it was just the soother roll of icy air.
The highlights of the meal were the mayonnaise and Parmesan cheese on top of and entire semi-warmed can of corn. If this sounds like whatever “not good” tastes like, well you are correct. It was however better than the cucumbers, with red juice and spicy fruit roll up’s on top... nope, that’s not a joke. I was hoping to score fruit by the foot on top but unfortunately it was one of a spaghetti like fruit roll up situation. Absolutely disgusting.
The chorizo tacos came in corn not flour tortillas and had approx 1/4 egg involved with what seemed like premade bagged chorizo... sadly the huevos rancheros plate looks like the a plate of random ingredients that could possibly be seen as the side plate that comes with fajitas... but without fajitas, and the plate is plastic... super awesome... but like not good awesome, bad awesome...
The coffee was literally instant coffee poured into a mr coffee pot, I think it’s the same one my sister had at her house but dirtier and with not good coffee inside.
This place is summed up by the warms and the colds... coffee, cold, water, warm, building cold, spicy spaghetti fruit roll up warm, emotional feelings about this Resturant cold, my chili ring after digestion... super warm.
Guys... avoid this restaurant at all costs, pretty sure it has to be a front for some other activity, not willing to stick around long enough to figure out what it is, but pretty sure whatever activity they are doing, doesn’t involve making delicious foods.
Shocked that the health inspector hasn’t slapped this place with a solid D...
Read moreWhile searching for Birria tacos, I remembered La Loteria was a place I always wanted to try after seeing the classic style diner years ago. I pulled up, and the parking lot was pretty empty as it always is whenever I've passed by in the past. I walked in and saw a familiar face, so I expected the food to be at least good at that point. I glanced over the menu and decided to go with the Quesabirria plate. I had a short wait time for my food, so while waiting, I took in the classic feel of the diner. It felt like I was sitting in the diner scene from Back to the Future. The line cook started on my order and took no time. I got my order to go, seeing as it was the NFL playoffs were on at that time. I got home and opened my plate and noticed my quesabirria tacos looked more like regular tacos. The onions were cut to big, the plate didn't come with consume, and the sauce cups barely had any sauce. My food didn't look anything like the plate pictured on google. I was disappointed at what I was looking at, but once I actually tasted them, they were surprisingly really good. The side cup of beans that came with the order had a ton of flavor! I was pleased with how good everything was, but I was disappointed in the presentation. The customer service was great, as well as the atmosphere. The place did look like it could use a really good deep cleaning, but with that being said, I do plan to return and give the...
Read moreWe like many others found this place by mistake. It's tucked away and easily passable. Me and my wife are always looking for food for people who don't do crowds. We have had negative experience at pretty much every restraunt we have have eaten here in Killeen. Now when you go in here you understand your not going to deal with 30,40,50 people. The staff are one on one. Being able to sit at a counter watch our food being made and just appreciating small talk with such amazing guys on the other side of the counter. It felt smooth not forced and we enjoyed talking to them. We sampled the menu. And I can say it truly is a diner. Quick easy food that reminds me of home. The food was piping hot, already better than half the food establishments in Killeen. Fresh dropped chips that reminded me of being south of the border. I had the breakfast burrito wife had the pancakes and oh my goodness I shoved it down quicker than my stomach could expand. The pancakes were crispy fluffy and full of flavor. Best part is you could taste the food and not just grease. They have a great selection from a smaller menu which helps indecisive people like myself. They even have a cool out back yard area where we plan to enjoy during the winter months. All and all knee slapper and we will be there every Sunday to support such an amazing...
