Fear and Loathing in Danielson: A Gonzo Review of New York Pizza Company
We Were Somewhere Around Furnace Street... The neon glow of Furnace Street flickered in the rearview as I staggered into New York Pizza Company, clutching a thirst for adventure and a vague sense of existential dread. The bar was alive—a swirling maelstrom of laughter, clinking glasses, and the kind of camaraderie you only find in places where the pizza is excellent, the beer is cold, and the crowd is just the right amount of rowdy.
The Beer: A Liquid Mirage The beer selection here is not just good—it’s a fever dream of hops and barley. I ordered something from the tap that tasted like the lovechild of a Belgian monk and a Connecticut lumberjack. The bartender, a sage in flannel, recommended a pint that paired perfectly with the chaos of the evening. If Hunter S. Thompson had a spirit animal, it would be the guy at the end of the bar, waxing poetic about IPAs and the Red Sox in the same breath.
Mickey’s Pick: The Burger of the Gods I was lured by the siren song of the “Mickey’s Pick” burger—peppercorn encrusted, gorgonzola cream, mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, and red onion, all stacked with the reckless abandon of a Vegas blackjack dealer on a hot streak. One bite and I was transported: this was not just a burger, it was a full-contact sport. Juicy, decadent, and just dangerous enough to make you question your cholesterol.
The Inferno Pizza: Fire in the Hole The Inferno pizza is aptly named. It’s a spicy, molten masterpiece that dances on the edge of madness. Each slice is a dare, a challenge to your taste buds and your dignity. The crust is thin and crisp, the toppings a riot of heat and flavor. I found myself sweating, grinning, and reaching for another slice like a man possessed. This is pizza for the bold, the brave, and the slightly unhinged.
The Crowd: Beautiful Lunatics The bar crowd is a glorious cross-section of humanity: locals, travelers, and the occasional philosopher-king. There’s a sense of community here, a shared understanding that life is short and pizza is sacred. The laughter is infectious, the stories tall, and the vibe is pure, unfiltered good times.
The View: Vibrant Townsfolk From my perch at the bar, I caught glimpses of the outside world—shadowy figures moving with purpose, or perhaps just confusion, in the crosswalks. Was it hobo combat? Performance art? The opening act for the evening’s entertainment? No one seemed concerned. In Danielson, you learn to expect the unexpected and order another round.
Final Verdict: New York Pizza Company is a psychedelic slice of Connecticut hospitality—where the beer flows, the burgers conquer, the pizza burns (in the best way), and the crowd is always ready for whatever the night brings. Come for the food, stay for the beer, and keep one eye on the street. You never know...
Read moreQuaint little pizza shop that smells delicious as soon as you walk in. It's a seat yourself kind of place with a nicely decorated bar side and a quieter dining room option. They sell slices to go, which is a great lunch/dinner option. The pizza was a flatter woodfired crust that was crunchy yet soft. My friend also had a chicken parmesan wrap which came out nice and hot with onions and peppers. The dining staff was friendly and attentive. The waitress was knowledgeable and recommended a beer when my favorite was out and my friend ordered a mixed drink-vodka cranberry with Sprite/Sierra Mist. Unfortunately, the drink was the only negative experience. I wouldn't suggest ordering soda/mixed drinks with soda from this place because it was extremely flat. We brought it to the staff's attention that the Co2 in the machine might be out and would like the drink to be remade, since it tasted like cranberry flavored water. The waitress took our drink to the back and it was quickly brought back to us with a side cup of the Sierra mist to prove it was bubbly without the drink being remade. This was extremely disappointing as the drink was AWFUL. I would come back as we had an overall pleasant experience, but I would only come back for...

We sat down at a table for four in the room with the TV's (my nephew's request), and we looked at out menus. I was torn between choosing what burger or mac and cheese dish to go for, but after trusting my intuition, I went with the Fried Luigi burger.
The red onions and fried egg really make this burger a taste sensation takes your taste buds for a ride on the Flavor Town Express. That's the best description I can come up with, so fi you love your burgers with fried eggs, you'll love this.
I love seeking out places that have tasty burgers in my travels, whether it's a food truck or a restaurant, and I can now add New York Pizza Company to my list. Also the nacho chips and cheese dip were equally delicious. I said, "I wish I was an octopus with two heads and a second stomach!" I wanted to snarf down everything on my plate, it was sooo darn good!! The icing on the cake was waddling like a stuffed penguin back to the car, as I was left full and satisfied. Bottom line: If you haven't been to New York Pizza Company, come check it out, your tummy and your taste buds will be...
