2.5 ☆ OMGosh - the "re-opened" Purple Cow earns two separate ratings -one for food, the other for milkshakes & desserts.
5☆ Let's begin with the latter. Purple Cow has everything plus the kitchen sink too! And if the flavor you are craving is not listed...they will blend your favorite, special order. You can get the basics: chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, peanut butter, etc. You can get super yummy flavors like Strawberry or Blueberry Cheesecake, mint chocolate chips, Butterfinger, birthday cake...you get the idea. The shakes are thick, rich, and full of flavor. They even have lots of different flavors of Cheesecake Factory Cheesecake. (YUM!!)
2☆ Ummm-The food. While they have a huge menu what we've had was either half eaten or thrown in the trash after a single bite. Hot dogs. Oh my, for two kids one bite of their favorite "drive-thru" food was enough. I took a bite myself & could not swallow it. The actual hot dog was shriveled & tough. The wrapper was littered with grease, that had soaked into the bun. It wasn't good. Then there were the fried green tomatoes - I don't think I can adequately word this well enough to describe their condition. First, the tomatoes themselves were entirely too ripe to have been used for fried green tomatoes. We should be able to pick up a slice, dip it, and bite it. Not these! The slices could not be picked up. The slices were not cut consistently. So we had thick, thin, medium, way too thin, & a whopper of a thick slice. (The 2nd order had these same issues.)Of course since the tomato fell apart all the coating just fell off. And the grease- -Oh me oh my! One slice had enough grease on it to soak thru 4 Purple Cow napkins. You could see & smell the grease immediately upon opening the unventilated, styrofoam containers. Both orders were tossed. The corn dogs were okay. At least these were not to burned or dripping grease. A local PC competitor's are much, much better.
If you need a sweet tooth fix, PC has a lot of choices, reasonably priced, & are yummy, yummy! If you want to take a night off & treat the family to take out, I suggest you choose a different drive-thru.

Read moreI RETRACT THE ONE STAR "ONLY" Having been a loyal customer to this establishment for a decade+strong. I was very disappointed in this establishment due to the owner= ("Stephen") attitude on a messed up order saying to bring the food back and would"fix" the order right considering we live in Virginia and made a special trip just for the food ...very disappointed in the management when trying to explain what happened with the food the owner when asked for a corporate number said he was the owner. ..needless to say we won't ever go back to the purple cow ...because of the treatment of a customer on the phone who is supposed to be always right in the food industry please think twice about spending your hard earned money here I was in the food industry for 20+ yrs just very disappointed in treatment of customers and honestly think twice before spending your hard earned money here. Especially when you're at the first window while having your order taken and at that point I never felt the need to worry because that COMPETENT EMPLOYEE- was extremely helpful when telling the employee on duty at the Grill exactly what the order was and repeated it twice, Only then to look back and say "Sorry, I just don't want them to get your order wrong". SORRY, No Thanks. That's just not Acceptable. And told to bring back the food.! ( NO problem) I explained that being told that you're sorry isn't enough considering the aggravation and not to mention everything else. But. OH WELL- THIS IS JUST ABOUT AS FAR AS THIS MAN CARES ABOUT MAKING THINGS RIGHT. Much less show appreciation to the customer for their aggravation, Not To Mention...
Read morePurple Cow has seriously gone down hill since the new owners took it over! We went through the drive thru yesterday at about 4 p.m. and ordered a giant steak bomb, a giant hawaiian with no peppers and onions and a chicken strip dinner. Our total was $29.85. The gentleman that took our order at the window called everything out as I ordered it and repeated my order back to me correctly. Once I got to Holston Valley to eat with my boyfriend who is currently hospitalized, I was disappointed to discover that my giant hawaiian sub was some sort of chicken sub with tomatoes on it. I don’t eat tomatoes. I tried to call the restaurant and their answering system kept disconnecting my call. I finally got through to them after 8:30 p.m. and the guy I spoke to on the phone asked if I still had my receipt. I informed him I wasn’t given one. He was able to pull up my receipt by my order time and total and informs me that the order ticket said giant honey mustard, not giant hawaiian. I told him that I did not order a honey mustard and he goes “I believe you but we didn’t make your order wrong. The grill made what was put on the grill slip.” I’ve never had Purple Cow get my order wrong and I’m hugely disappointed that they didn’t even want to make it right, especially when we spent almost $30 on our order. Purple Cow has always been one of my favorite places to eat in Kingsport, but I refuse to spend my money and give my business to a place who isn’t willing to correct...
