Five years later I've returned to Sitar and... I have no idea how they've stayed in business. They're not bad, but they're not good, either.
I tried the weekend buffet and it had a lot of interesting items. Not really good, but definitely unique: like curried beets and a bulgar wheat (?) mutton biryani.
Much of the food was brown, in a bad way. Everything had muted flavors and had been cooked together with no layering of seasoning. Buffet dishes looked sad and tasted hard and dried out. The naan was particularly bad and hard. Almost cracker hard, and undercooked at the same time.
Too, it felt and tasted like a lot of the buffet dishes were leftover food from the week mashed together in new shapes to clear out the fridges. The chana samosas, for example, were formerly fried samosas but now mushy and served with fresh chickpeas and seasonings.
It'll probably be another five or 10 years before I try this place again.
One of the few Indian restaurants I've been to for dinner. Usually I go during lunch to enjoy a buffet offering a wide variety of options at a reasonable price, but friends convinced me to try Sitar for dinner. I found it overpriced for the decor, food quality, and quantity.
Sitar earns my praise for cleanliness and service, both of which were on point while we dined at the restaurant. The decor was appropriate, pleasant, but not particularly impressive.
We ordered three different dishes and we all agreed they were solid offerings, but again not really impressive. An egg curry dish was literally three over-cooked hard-boiled eggs with sauce poured on top. For me, this was a real low point in the dinner. It wasn't actively bad, but it wasn't good either.
I've had both better and worse Indian food. Sitar is probably a good, middle-of-the-road choice for a buffet lunch, but for dinner it felt overpriced and lackluster. Worth giving a shot if you're in the mood for Indian and don't want to drive to other nearby...
Read moreMy recent experience at Sitar Indian Cuisine left me deeply disappointed due to their disregard for specific dietary requirements, particularly regarding nut allergies. Despite clearly communicating my concerns about nuts when placing my order, the first dish served contained nuts, putting me at risk and creating a potentially life-threatening situation.
The lack of attention to such a critical detail, especially when it involves allergens, is unacceptable and concerning. In the case of severe allergies, the consequences could be dire, and in my situation, it was only through sheer luck that we avoided a visit to the emergency room.
Beyond the immediate safety concern, the overall dining experience was marred by this incident. The trust that patrons place in a restaurant to adhere to their dietary restrictions was shattered, and the enjoyment of the meal was overshadowed by anxiety.
I strongly urge Sitar Indian Cuisine to take the safety of their customers more seriously, especially when it comes to food allergies. Clear communication about allergen-free options, rigorous training for the kitchen staff, and a thorough review of their processes for handling allergy-related requests are essential steps that must be taken to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
It is my hope that this review serves as a cautionary note to others with dietary restrictions, emphasizing the importance of vigilance when dining at Sitar Indian Cuisine until they demonstrate a commitment to addressing and rectifying these...
Read moreGiving 1 star just for the horrible service and experience. The food was good!
We went there for dinner as a group of 6 people. We kept waiting for 10 minutes at our table and no one even bothered to give us water.
We could see right away that they were handling take out orders as people were lining up for takeout. They had limited serving staff. Only two people handling serving the entire restaurant as well as taking care of take out orders.
Anyway, the server comes and takes our order, and says that kitchen is busy and might take around 20-25 minutes for our food to arrive. We said it should be okay.
But we waited for 45 minutes for our food to arrive. All this while seeing them push out take out orders non-stop. If you have limited staff, then maybe it's better to prioritize dine-in over take out and stop taking takeout orders if your kitchen is so busy!
We ordered hariyali paneer and the server kept it our table, without mentioning that the iron utensil it was served on was burning hot. My wife touched it unknowingly and got a first degree burn on her hand!
The service and our experience was really horrible. Staff wasn't able to handle such a...
