Ok, so let me just say that this is hands down our favorite seafood place at the moment. We've tried a few others around Orlando that were also pretty good but this one, I think, beats them for various reasons. I had purchased a groupon initially for a reasonable deal on a new seafood place. It was $20 toward food and drinks. My husband and his brother had went on their guys day out. His brother was on vacation and recorded himself eating his entire meal just to send to his wife (who is still not happy about that since she hasn't tried it yet)! We've all had our fair share of seafood boils, whether back home in the caribbean, or here. He told his wife that it was the best seafood boil he has ever had as well. My husband and his brother had the king crab and the snow crab boil with drinks. My husband said he wouldve preferred the king crab boil after seeing his brother's own but his own was also delicious. He had paid and additional $60 something after the voucher, which was still pretty good.
I took my girls and neice out for us to try it together, after my husband came home bragging about it and showing us his pictures and his brother's video. Everything looked very tantalizing. And after he mentioned that he would recommend trying it because he felt like it was better than our other favorite spot, we had to try it.
We went to the John Young Parkway location on a Saturday night following a late appointment. We were famished and was hoping that the food would match all the hype. The restaurant was packed but the wait time was less than 20 mins. It was clean and the workers were polite. The waitress, my namesake, Kristin, was very attentive and helpful. We were going to order separate seafood boils and she suggested trying the family bundle instead and adding anything extra that we wanted. We got the bundle with snow crab legs, crawfish, shrimp, with sausages, potatoes and corn. We added a half pound of extra snow crab legs and a pound of lobster. Also got rice just in case (which we didnt need but saved for another day), chicken tenders with fries (my youngest loves fries) as an alternative for my youngest just in case, and for appetizers we got hush puppies and chicken wings. The seafood boil was finger-licking good. We had the juicy seasoning, initially the seasoning was a tad bit too high seasoned but I squeezed some lemons over it and it was perfect. The crabs and lobster were meaty and sweet, and everything else in the boil was also perfect.
Chicken tenders were seasoned perfectly with right amount of crisp to it. The fries were even pretty good. Hush puppies and chicken wimgs were delicious. We tried a sweet and spicy flavor which was perfect. For drinks we got strawberry lemonade and strwaberry/mango lemonade. They were all very refreshing and perfectly flavored. We had so much food that we had another whole meal for the next day. That was a plus for me because that saved me or my husband having to cook the next day. The total we spent for all that food was about $158 with taxes. So, I think everything was excellent; the food, cleanliness of restaurant, customer service and price. It's definitely worth the trip and I would...
Read moreWe have been here a couple of times, but probably will not again. I didn't want to get too messy as we were meeting friends afterwards. So I asked our server about the Dirty Rice dish. She told me it was rice, sausage, corn and onions with a meat of my choice. So I picked the crab meat. What I expected was perhaps a scoop or two of rice on a plate, with a small cob of corn, sliced up sausage and some onions just like the steamed entrees they serve. There are no photos of this on the menu.
What I got, as you can see, is a bowl of rice that exactly resembled Chinese Fried Rice. All the ingredients were diced super small. There were four corn kernels that I could count, Some sausage that was about 1/4" cubes, no onions that i could see, and I had to search for the crab meat. There could not have been 1/2 an ounce of it. This entree is $14.
I took a couple of spoonfuls and was not impressed, it was kind of dry and bland. I asked our server about it and she sympathized and I asked her for some of the broth/sauce in an attempt to help the dish out. But then waiting, I called for the manager. He is this young inexperienced kid. I told him how unhappy I was and how uninspiring the dish was. He then proceeded to describe in detail how it is prepared. I don't care how it's prepared, it is just a lousy creation and all he offered was to take it away and off the bill. No offer to replace it, no offer to make another dish quickly, just an awkward "manager" who I was wasting my thoughts and breath on. In the meantime, my wife is done eating. We got our bill, and had to ask to take the $2.50 for a bowl of broth off since I never touched that. We left and I went away hungry.... never again.
+1 star for our server, and +1 because my wife enjoyed her dinner. -1 for terrible dish, -1 for practically no crab meat. -1 for the "manager" who has no business skills and to let a customer...
Read moreI first found this place on Groupon with a really nice coupon. I originally liked the King Crab chain; but this particular restaurant took the cake. Lauren was one of the two servers on the floor that night. Not only did she host, but she was also the bartender, food runner, and busser. She performed all her roles with a beautiful smile on her face and sincere warm hospitality. I was truly impressed and felt well taken care of!
Regarding the food! Omg. I've never had such good food. I ordered a Combo A - 1/2 lb snow crab, mussels, and shrimp. It came with two potatoes and one corn. When the steam bag arrived, they weren't kidding - it was truly a steam bag. The thing was smoking hot. So hot that I had to take a few minutes to let the food cool. The steam bag was a little overcooked. The crab shell became too soft, the mussel shells were cooked too long that they cracked, and the meat was chewy, the shrimp became tough and gamey as well. BUT! When you receive that hospitality and that seasoning, heat, and flavor, the softness of the food doesn't matter. I got the lemon pepper, garlic butter topping in mild...and I promise you.....#heaven. I got two drinks as well. The Henny Punch and the Mai Tai. Both drinks were super strong. Depending on what you like, these may or may not be for you. They were both sweet, tart, and a little medicine taste. But that's just me.
Overall, the place was fantastic. The restaurant was clean. I was sat fast. And I was treated with great hospitality. This is literally my new King Crab that I will...
