DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO SHELLFISH OR SHRIMP! My waiter was Manny. I don’t know who was managing there because the manager I spoke to regarding me and my party’s issue did not present himself he just approached with “what happened”. I am a normal customer at the Lake mary location for a little over two years. I happened to go to the Apopka location because it was closer to her hotel. NEVER AGAIN!!!!! Never again will step foot to eat at this location. I waited about 45-50 minutes for three entrees. I ordered two empanadas (chicken & crab),(the server never. Mentioned they were out of crab smh), soup, kids entree which was chicken finger and fries. PEOPLE CHICKEN FINGERS AND FRIES. My sister ordered a lemon-aid that had a very chemical like and BAD aftertaste. So I had to get her a mango drink instead. Then when my sister received her empanadas, one was chicken and one was shrimp. Mind you we told our server SHE WAS ALLERGIC TO SHRIMP WHEN HE ASKED IF SHE WAS ALLERGIC TO ANYTHING. I immediately requested the manager because MY SISTER IS SEVERELY ALLERGIC TO SHRIMP! Yet, they serviced her a shrimp empanada. She caught it on time thank you Jesus. So my 7 year old son and Myself at this time are still waiting for our entree even after speaking to the manager. Issue with my son’s plate was he could NOT BITE THROUGH OR eat the chicken! Know why? BECAUSE IT WAS VERY OVERCOOKED. I had enough at this point because now we had to get it sent back to the kitchen and I’m still waiting for my SOUP and my sisters fried chicken and plantains and now my 7 year old still has to wait for his food!. My soup, LOL MY SOUP MY POORLY SERVED SOUP was a Sancoche—I hardly HAD any soup or food on my plate. I had one skinny corn piece. It’s was half an inch thick. Half an inch thick. It looked like scraps. I hardly had any potatoes and sauce. My plate looked like it was starving. Meanwhile a waitress brings out a large red snapper with much food on the other plates. I mean, really? Such a disrespect to the sancoche lovers, which I happen to be one, This was terrible. This was not a big order at all. After addressing the issue with the manager he didn’t even want to give me a discount I requested. His attitude was very defensive. YOU DONT GET TO GET DEFENSIVE WHEN YOU ALMOST SENT A CUSTOMER TO THE HOSPITAL AND THE FOOD IS NOT EDIBLE!!!!! I had to convince him why he should provide a discount for the very poor service me and my family received! Then finally he provided a $2 discount smh. Lol $2. Totally ruined my family dinner and do not recommend anyone to go to this location. The Lake mary location I would definitely stick to. The disappointing part was the waitresses had negative attitudes and my waiter even seemed overwhelmed. I don’t know who is managing this location but they are not doing a good job. There is only a select of people and group that get the best service. There must have also been 5-7 birthdays during our wait and we all got headaches from the super loud drums and singing. It was a nightmare I couldn’t even enjoy my meal because of those obnoxious drums in my ear! Not to sound insensitive, but I wish the music singing was close to the birthday person and not on top of other peoples table and food. This was not welcoming at all and when I asked for the owners email or number I got shunned away. I chose to not tip, pay my bill, and leave with my family, as this was the most HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!!! Go to lake mary location as they are amazing if you even have a bad experience here At Apopka. The atmosphere is much endurable, and their ceiling has shooting stars it is absolutely peaceful, can be busy as well, your food comes out at a timely fashion, and your actually treated like a human being there. Juan is the manager at lake mary location and he knows how to talk to people. The manager at the Apopka location doesn’t really have the empathy to consider customers when they make a mistake on their end. NEVER BRINGING MY...
Read moreThis place is a vibe for sure. It’s decor aesthetic is fun and on brand with the food type, the live music was a nice surprise, and the server that helped us was very attentive and friendly 10/10 on service.
We went on a Saturday night around 8-9pm and were pleasantly surprised there was no wait. We were greeted at the door by the host and swiftly sat, shortly after our waiter arrived to welcome us. He was patient as we took our time exploring the menu and answered all our questions with a smile.
We ordered the following items:
Tamarindo Sangria pitcher - this came in a artisanal structure with a spout for pouring. The drink itself was okay didn’t have the distinct tamarind flavor I would have liked and didn’t feel like it had much alcohol which was a bit disappointing considering the price was like $60. Definitely felt over priced, we did get about 6 short stem glasses out of it.
The mix tray appetizer that brings fried yuca, fried pork and chicken, fried cheese bites, green fried plantain and bacalaito. The yuca was on point, the pork and chicken were perfectly fried and juicy, the cheese bites with the little guava drizzle was a nice touch, the bacalaito did disappoint - it was too flat, hard and oily (like when something stale gets refried) 0 stars for the bacalaito, the plantain was also blah. This dish was something like $30, if everything had been on point I would’ve said it was a fair value but since the bacalaito and tostones were blah I don’t feel like I got my moneys worth.
Sopa de camarones- the camarones were large and plentiful, my husband ate it all without complaint so I’m going to assume it was good. The presentation was basic.
I ordered a mofongo de chirarron. The presentation was on point however my mofongo was cold and dry. The chicharrones on top were fried to perfection and moist with a good bite 10/10 but the actual plátano it self was not impressive. My husband mentioned it to the waiter who offered to bring some soup consume to moisten it, I agreed that would be an okay resolution but was impressed when instead he brought out another portion of mofongo (just the plantain part) which was visibly moist (with two small ramekins of caldo on the side). I truly enjoyed the second one that was brought out and do feel like even though it was moist the caldo was needed because it added flavor to the dish otherwise the flavor would have been mid for me.
My kids had the chicken tenders and rice dish. The portion was plentiful and the chicken looked like it was nicely fried. The dish is pictured with an Oreo pack on the menu but came out with wafer cookies instead, at first they were disappointed about the cookie but after trying it they ended up really liking them. The waiter was nice enough to bring them another since they didn’t care for the yogurt.
Overall this was a nice experience for us, a little on the pricey side but worth it. Based on this experience I would return and I...
Read moreCame across a few videos online of this restaurant and knew instantly we had to try for ourselves. At first we were a little nervous because when we pulled up there was a massive crowd outside of the door and we were worried that we would not be able to get in or that the wait time was going to be ridiculous. We put our names on the list and the hostess said it would be about 35 minutes, however we ended up waiting about 45 minutes instead before we were called.
As soon as you walk past the hostess there is a small room to the right with a lot of Puerto Rican knickknacks that I believe you can purchase however I'm not 100% sure as I didn't actually step into that room. There was live music playing which was a surprise because I didn't know they had live music and let me just tell you it was amazing! It's a pretty decent size restaurant and I say that because as you are waiting outside you can't really tell when you look in through the doors but they have a nice little bar area and plenty of seating.
The decor was beautiful, it reminds you of being in Viejo San Juan walking down the cobblestone streets.
As far as the staff goes, everyone there was extremely professional and very friendly. Our waiter specifically, was so nice and so welcoming. I think what I liked most about our waiter was how honest he was when we asked for recommendations on food or drink and he even took it upon himself to let us know that because they were so busy the kitchen was a little backed up and so it would take a little bit longer than usual to receive our food. I thought that was a smart thing for him to inform us of this way we didn't have the general expectation of assuming our food would come out pretty quickly etc.
The food was definitely a 10 out of 10. The portions are so big that we honestly left there with leftovers and feeling like our stomachs were going to explode. We regret nothing though. If you love Spanish/Caribbean cuisine and are looking for a nice place to have dinner and simply have a good time, this place is a must. The vibes were so genuine, I mean the entire restaurant was singing along with the live music. The singer was so inclusive and everyone was really just really enjoying themselves and having a good time. It was literally as if you were in Puerto Rico in San Juan with the locals and tourists enjoying life together.
The one thing I do have to critique is the pricing. Putting aside everything else I personally think it's a bit overpriced but I would still definitely go...
