Our server was extremely rude. He didn't bother listening to me and when I ordered myself a shrimp chimichanga, my toddler the kid's quesadilla, and then my older son the shrimp chimichanga (going in order, around the table). So basically, my oldest son and I were ordering the exact same thing. Nothing special to anything, just how it comes. Our food comes and my oldest son is given a shrimp quesadilla. I wait forever, but our waiter never came back, so I finally flagged down another server and explained the problem. She took the food and I explained what it was supposed to be. She said "no problem" and went on to correct the situation and inform our actual waiter. He comes back to our table and continues to argue and insist that I had said a shrimp quesadilla for my oldest son too. Well, he finally asked if we could "wait awhile" for it to be fixed and I said we could and he left. Everyone at our table of four distinctly heard me order my older son the "shrimp chimichanga" because I also said "same as mine". My husband always makes a joke when I say quesadilla, because of an old movie where they call it a ques-ah- dill(like the pickle)-ah. He said he knows I only said quesadilla once! I wasn't even a bit upset at the mistake and was as kind as possible, but after he came and kept insisting and arguing with me, I started feeling super uncomfortable. Well since he said it was going to take soooo long to make my son's food again, I decided to cut mine in half, but we had NO extra plates on our table. I had to dump some of our chips into another chip basket to make a "makeshift plate" for my son's half a chimichanga. Our waiter walked by and watched me do this and never asked me if I needed a plate, which would have been helpful because then I could have also given my son some of my rice, beans, and the guacamole salad that he loves and I don't even care for. However, it was just too messy and all I could barely fit was the half of a chimichanga. Anyway, in five minutes or less, he brought my son his food, but my son was already eating the half I had given him. We were all upset, annoyed, and feeling extremely uncomfortable at how rudely we had been treated and my son barely picked at his food and asked me if I wanted my half back (I didn't). The shrimp chimichanga was watery on the inside because they used a frozen vegetable medley and didn't bother to drain the water well enough. The excess water thinned out the cheese sauce and made the crispy shell soggy on the bottom!🤮 It was so gross! The vegetables and shrimp had NO flavoring or salt and were not good. The few shrimp it had not been cooked on a flame with seasonings like most Mexican restaurants cook their shrimp which makes it so good! They tasted like the came out of a steamer bag with the vegetables, which 10/1 is how they did it! The vegetables in my shrimp chimichanga were broccoli, carrots, and a tiny piece of cauliflower. However, in my son's shrimp chimichanga the vegetables were zucchini, squash, and onions?!? So much for consistency! 🙄 I tried one of my son's pieces of squash because I love squash and I almost spit it out! It had a harsh, bitter taste to it that a tiny bit of butter, oil, salt, pepper, anything could have most likely fixed, but wasn't added.
In my opinion, go to Soccer Taco. They know how to cook and season shrimp and even though you only get around 6-8 in their dish, they are large, flame grilled, well seasoned, and delicious! I am not a person who complains, so we put our sons food in the to-go box he provided, paid, and left without saying a word or being rude in anyway. I doubt the leftovers will ever be touched and I will get to deal with throwing them out. I was just very disappointed! I would not recommend it...
Read moreThey never keep the chips and salsa full, you ALWAYS have to tell them. In Texas, they just offer or bring it. This isn't the only restaurant that does this in Knoxville, it's like they think they'll save money if they're stingy. But this just creates an environment where the customers feel they're not allowed to have extra. And everywhere in Tennessee, restaurants charge you if you want to take some to go. So if you desire some with an entree you've bought to take home with you, you have to pay a pretty penny to just have a few chips and salsa with ur meal. I get it I'd someone wants a pint or quart odds the stud, yeah, charge them, but a small ramekin of salsa, come on, people like it with their meal as well. Enough of my rant.... Im in love with lots of menu items here. Especially the Pollo Pasollia (sp?). Its so sweet and had a great grilled flavor. They're refried beans are a little runny but still tasty. The carne asada are way too thin, so even when you order it medium rare it doesn't get delivered with a red hot center. Has plenty of flavor, with a good char, and they give a lot of steak, just needs to be left a little thicker so they could achieve temp requests. They're chunky guacamole cracks me up. They put lots of pico de gallo in the mix with chunks of avocado. It's very tasty, but it needs salt, and a bit more avocado. It looks like they only use one avocado, and they charge $7 for it. Craziness! They're street corn in the cob, or, Elliot, is pretty good. It would taste even better if they grilled it a bit. And I wish I could order it as an entree side. I personally don't like beans and rice, but they said I had to order it as a separate ala carte item. It's only $3, so that wasn't too bad. Oh and they charge you for any tortillas you may want with your meals, except with fajitas and the Pasilla chicken. The corn tortillas are served steamed, which look like they microwave them. They're not made there they just buy the cheap, thin grocery store type. If they flat griddled them first, they wouldn't break up into tiny pieces. I've sent back more than one order of them because they just broke apart in my hands. The flour tortillas have a similar plot; store bought, thin, cheap, heated quickly and served steamed. Luckily, those don't fall apart so easily. I know this doesn't sound like the best review, but out of all the lower priced Mexican restaurants I've tried in Knoxville, this isn't bad for the overall prices. It's kept clean, the staff are all very polite and helpful. They appreciate their customers. They have great food and drink specials. I think this is a great place to grab some drinks and a quick bite. And if you had a little chopped cilantro to the salsa, it's amazing as well. And the chips are fresh, not room temp and stale. You'll need to salt them, but that's pretty standard now adays. If you live in the area, a great local,...
Read moreThe following was sent to the restaurant through Facebook messages:
After my wife and I were seated it took over 5 minutes before anyone came over to get our drink order.
When our drinks, salsa and chips arrived, I requested additional napkins, a bowl of extra hot salsa, and salt. None of which ever arrived.
When our food arrived, I again made a request to the runner for the above items. She repeated what I requested and assured me that she would be right back. She never came back.
My wife nibbled on her over cooked shrimp, waiting for someone from your wait staff to come back to our table so she could make comment about the quality of the shrimp.......no one ever came back to our table.
I sat there and ate chips and beans waiting on the salt and salsa I requested prior to ordering......it never showed up.
We ended up pushing our plates away........hoping someone from your wait staff would come and ask if everything was alright........no one came back.
After 15 or so minutes.......we got up and walked out of the building. In doing so, we passed right by our server who did not say a single word to us.
In all, my wife ate 2 1/2 over cooked shrimp. I had the beans and a Coke.
We have been to your restaurant several times and the service can be hit or miss depending on how busy you are. This evening was by far the worst experience we have had at your restaurant. It has been over 15 years since I have straight up walked out, but since no one would come over and make any contact with us.......we were left with no choice. 3 different times I or my wife attempted to hail someone from your staff.......to no avail.
We watched as a table of 6 were seated after us and we counted at least 5 different times their table was visited by several different folks of your staff.........and we sat with our plates pushed to the side........almost completly untouched.........waiting for someone to come over and see if everything was alright.
So I do apologize for walking out on 1 Coke, 2 1/2 shrimp, and a side of beans. And if you request, I will happily come back in tomorrow and pay for those items. I just wanted you to know why it was that my wife and I left with an unpaid check, and...
