Leaving a review because the encounter has stuck in my mind. First time in the bar, bought by a friend a few weeks ago. I donât mind dogs but there should be some kind of prominent notification in the bar that it is named after a dog and sometimes heâs just walking around unattended. There should be a sign posted that says that he might be walking around so people can decided if they want to enter or at least not be surprised when he shows up and gets in their personal space. Had a very strange encounter after a ârandomâ (it was Monkey) dog came up to me and I shouted for someone to come get the dog. Everyone seemed to be friendly with the owner and knew about the dog, so they all just stared and laughed at me. This was when I noticed I was the only POC in the entire bar (this is just an observation, but this did add to my discomfort of being stared at). Then I had an uncomfortable conversation with the owner where she spent a good while telling me that âmonkey runs this placeâ and sheâs his âprotectorâ and that he might come back. I wouldnât have minded had I known, but you donât know what peopleâs experiences with dogs are to just let him roam around unannounced. We finished our drinks quickly and went to Tern...

Everyone at Monkeyâs feels like familyâthe bartenders learn your name right away and get to know you, and lots of locals hang out there regularly, self included. Itâs a safe space (highly woman- and queer-friendly), itâs always clean and well-lit, the bathrooms smell nice, and the patrons are good people. If Iâm out in town Iâll always stop by and say hello; itâs quiet during the day and a lovely, warm, welcoming place in the evening. While most of the coffee shops around town close early, Monkeyâs has a coffee shop vibe but is open late, which is fabulous if you want a place to study/read/work remotely and prefer working later in the day. Iâve always enjoyed the pub/bar scene, but as someone trying to scale back her drinking, I especially love that Monkeyâs has an amazing selection of mocktails and non-alcoholic beers that actually taste good (not just glorified fruity bubbly water). They donât serve food, but you can walk down the street for takeout and theyâll let you bring it in. And of course, the barâs named for the ownerâs golden retriever, so there are almost always cute dogs with friendly...
Read moreIf youâre looking for a bar that feels like homeâwith or without your pupâthis is the place. Not only is it dog-friendly but the bartenders are absolute legends. Friendly, fast, and they actually know their stuff when it comes to cocktails. Large mocktail menu that makes you feel like youâre not missing out on a cocktail. The vibe is laid-back, inclusive, welcoming, and just the right amount of lively. Whether youâre popping in for a quick drink or staying for the night, youâre in good hands here. Highly recommend! If youâre lucky youâll meet Mr.Monkey himself but warning he will get you with the...
