Buzzard Billy’s has been a staple of my diet since I was a wea boy. It carries more to me than just good food. The nice atmosphere does not put any pressure on what I should be wearing. If your cool enough to hang mounted fish on fans they aren’t going to care about the stains I am about to make on my shirt. I have eaten here quite a few times so I will try and cover the highlights. I ordered a few things last week so I will use those pics. Buzzard Billy’s is one of the few places around here that offers awesome Cajun Cuisine. My three favorite things from there are.
Armadillo eggs – These guys are the things that give me the most joy. Each layer of it is better then the next. Its an Egg-shaped protein packed heart stopper. A crunchy crust of bacon, a delicate delicious chicken, and its molten core is made of pepper jack cheese and jalapeño. It comes from the kitchen piping hot and the home-made ranch side is to die for. Dipping these not only cools it down but brings a refreshing lightness to a heavenly heavy morsel. If I could get one for every day, I would probably die a lot sooner but I would also die so very happy. Mean green- This is available in a couple of different ways, the ways I have had it are the wings and the nachos. I love me some good wings and these are them, I am a ranch man and the mean green and the tight white are just right for me. Have a stained 2 to 3 shirts here eating these things? Yes. Me and an old friend went on a quest to find the best nachos and these are probably them. The price to quantity is out of this world. I think we ordered them thinking it would be a starter. It finished both of us. The Cajun combo- This is me introducing you to a small page in a great book of a cuisine. This plate comes with a blackened Catfish (which is a herb rub medley foraged in flame) a half order of Andouille and ham jambalaya and a cup of seafood gumbo and hushpuppies. Cajun in general is so full of flavor and really shows you there’s a lot out there that’s great that you are missing out on! . Protips-order a side of ranch to take home to dirty many more shirts and cure your mouth depression. Get curbside pickup or take out as there is very limited space. They also are selling 30$ gift cards for 25$ at the moment.-11/22/2020 I would order it on a week day as on weekends typically have lines with 25% of staff and seating available. Over all this place offers many great choices with a comfortable vibe. Pictured Veggie Fettuccine Alfredo- the shrimp one is better but I already met my meat quota Black bean chipotle burger with sweet potato fries Fried pickles with...
Read moreMy sister and I were driving my daughter back to school at UWLAX. We were excited to try Buzzard Billy’s as it was well rated, we were starving, and we love Cajun cuisine. The 30 minute wait at the door was concerning as we were starving but the restaurant had a great vibe so we decided to wait.
We were seated to our table to discover food scraps on the seats of the booth. We didn't complain and grabbed a napkin and cleaned our seats.
We ordered the “house made” spinach dip that was accompanied by incredibly stale chips.
After waiting 1 hour and 10 minutes, dinner arrived and everything was COLD. The hush puppies were burned and cold. It was a miserable meal that cost $82. I am shocked there are so many positive reviews. The shrimp was small, the vegetables were ice cold and way over cooked. Also, the menu has no description for your local brews. We love to try a local beer but neither the server or the menu offered any direction as to which beer is dark, light, citrusy or malty.
We had to ask another server for our check as we had no idea where our server was. We never received a follow up visit after our cold burned food arrived after 70 minutes of waiting. We told her our food was cold and burned she said she was sorry and offered to let us speak to the manager but we just wanted to get sleep.
I have worked in restaurants long enough to know that a good manager would never let food get cold. If the manager is not good then the issue would just be blamed on the server who is working for less than minimum wage. I still left a tip but it was the first time I didn’t want to.
UPDATE: 9/7/2022 - the manager did email me and said they had been in business over 25 years and it was an off night. They will address the issue. The responsiveness had me update the review star rating. Everyone has a bad day. I...
Read moreCame in the front door and saw a portrait of Kramer which was a hilarious entry. Walk up to the host stand while the hostess was talking to another couple on the list and she was being extremely rude to them. They were asking about their place in line and she responds “I sent you a text like 15 minutes ago and you didn’t come up.” The man said he hadn’t gotten and messages and she was insistent that she paged them. Guess what? She had put his phone number into the tablet wrong and her apology was still half sincere—I would have left if I were him and his wife. Get someone else to deal with guests when they come in…ew.
Anyways, I walk to the bar as I’m alone and get greeted by a nice bartender. She gets my order and my food comes a little later than you’d want, but they were busy so no qualms here. Jambalaya was delicious—some of the rice was undercooked, but not inedible. I finished my food and cocktail and they just dropped me my check without asking if I wanted anything else. I got the other bartenders attention and ordered another cocktail. Servers and bartenders were sharing their vape (assuming not nicotine) very “low key” between each other. They weren’t vaping in front of guests, but made us feel like we were at a drug deal. I’ll go back, but maybe just...
