Update: November 10th, 2022: Went back here for our second visit because we missed the tacos and nachos so much. Again, I'm coming up from Madison, so I don't get to visit this special restaurant as often as I'd like to.
I don't know if the two at the counter were owners, employees, managers, or familia...but they remembered Bree and I from our first visit and asked us where we've been...that it's been a little while. I was impressed they remembered us, as we remembered them, but they have so many customers and they made us feel like old friends who they were happy to see again.
So not only is the food amazing, the people are as well. They even recommended an Italian restaurant for us to try in Rochester, MN called Terza. You can count on us giving that a try as well.
Super street tacos are super. My daughter Bree and I each ordered the carne asada tacos with an order of nachos to share. She drank horchatas and I drank diet Pepsi. We all have different tastes obviously, but Bree and I love authentic Latino food. Some restaurants do it right, others not so much.
Having tried tacos around the country from Galveston, Texas, to Indianapolis, Indiana to Charlotte, NC, and Charleston, SC...and back across to our lovely Badger state from Milwaukee to Madison, Sauk City to Lakewood and from Sun Prairie to La Crosse...this is a top three for me. And thankfully, I plan on coming to visit a lot more often over the next four years (Go Eagles!!!) and anticipate many future visits to this little corner Taco restaurant.
The nachos are magnificent. Just wonderful. The right amount of cheese, the right texture, the right amount of jalapenos, the right amount of gooey, the right amount of crunch...yum, just simply yum 😋. Yum yum yum yum yum!!!!YUM!!!
We loved the carne asada tacos, which is always one of our faves when they are done right...and these were. Tiny cubes of steak on corn tortillas, and I ordered mine with just cilantro and onions. Try em that way if you haven't before.
Then there's the sauce in old ketchup bottles. Green (like a mild Verde), Cream 💚 green (an avocado pepper sauce), and the red/orange 🔥 spicy. Bree's favorite was the Green...but man did I love the avocado sauce on the steak tacos. Sooooo good.
If you like jalapenos like I do...go ahead and get a double order of their torreados, or roasted jalapenos. These are the best I've ever eaten anywhere....hands down. A bite of taco, a bite of torreados, then repeat. Wash it down with some horchatas, or if you're diabetic, then diet Pepsi or water (like me).
Make sure to check out some of the pictures of the food and the restaurant. Maybe we'll see...
Read moreThis one was hard- we love the food from super street, but for the second time in a row now the customer service has been poor. We call to order takeout, in part so that more money stays with the vendor rather than going to third-party app companies. We called, were put on hold, stayed on hold for ten minutes, called again and no answer. Went to order in person, saw there was one person in line, one groip at a table and one order ready for a delivery driver. When I told the young woman behind the counter we had tried to call and were left on hold indefinitely (and subsequently unable to get through) she told me “oh, yeah, we have permission to do that. We’ve been getting a lot of orders.” I told her this was the second time in about a month this had happened to us, and both times we came to order and wait in person. At this point I was told “oh, yeah, that’s okay.” I got an apology when I felt the need to say “it’s actually not-it’s not okay.”
I said my piece- we love their food and want to support businesses in our neighborhood, but this is some of the most appalling customer service I’ve ever had. I hope they make a change, because tonight made me question whether people who treat regular customers this way deserve them in the...
Read moreMaybe you will have a better experience if you go in person. I have a broken ankle, so I ordered dinner for my family using Uber eats. The elote portion was ridiculously small, the container fit in the palm of my hand. It was also mainly Mayo with some corn and a sprinkle of cheese. The sopas were so-so, overloaded with lettuce and sour cream, with barely any cheese, beans, or meat. The quessabirillas were spicy (that was the only flavor). There wasn't any cheese on them. And the nachos and queso were also spicy with that being literally the only flavor. If they were spicy and had other flavor, it would have been fine. But this is apparently one of those restaurants where they make everything so spicy that you can't taste anything except heat. The prices are also ridiculous for the portions that you get. I have had better quessabirillas, nachos and queso, and elote in the Dells, where the portions were bigger, the food actually had flavor, and it cost less. I will never be ordering...
