La Mesa Bistro & Bakery is an utter travesty masquerading as a dining establishment. The food is outrageously overpriced, yet somehow manages to be both flavorless and a textural disaster—imagine soggy, stale regret on a plate. The portions are so pitiful they’d barely satisfy a toddler, especially considering the absurd cost. As for taste? It’s nonexistent, unless you consider a heavy-handed assault of salt and grease a "culinary vision."

The service is a matching trainwreck—glacial, inattentive, and teetering on outright rude. I asked for a simple glass of water and was met with nothing but indifference; it never arrived. Wait times stretch into eternity, only for the food to finally show up looking like it’s been languishing under a heat lamp since breakfast.

The atmosphere seals the deal on this dumpster fire of an experience. Cramped, dated, and suffocating under a bizarre stench of musty old books and charred toast, it feels like no one’s bothered to clean since the place opened. For the same price—or honestly, far less—you could eat somewhere that doesn’t make you question your life choices. Skip this disaster unless you’re in the mood to flush your money and appetite...

if it wasn't for the self service I would have given it 5 stars. The food was excellent though and the resyeraunt was very clean. I recommend the lobster eggs Benedict it was amazing. I can't think of any other place around san diego that has this. It was very decadent and they did not skimp on the lobster or the portions. I really wish I could give this place 5 stars but like I said the cell service thing is the only thing that holds me back from it I really wish they had more staff on hand to be able to come to the table and take your order. Wasn't a fan of having having to order 1st and then sit down sometimes you just wanna be able to sit down and really study the menu and maybe have someone come and make recommendations. I think that if Lamesa be stroehen bakery changed this they would be worthy of 5 stars. With that being said I would definitely come back again and again. I love breakfast and brunch at this place was an excellent example of that. Even my kids love eating here and I have...

Breakfast done right! A friend took me here and I was really impressed with the food! Great selection; almost too much. ;-) Prices are quite reasonable and the quantities are generous. We had a hard time deciding on what to order! I ordered one of the specials, a smoked salmon omelet, and upgraded the potatoes to the cheesy potatoes. The omelet was fantastic; they were generous with the salmon and remembered to leave off the capers for me. The cheesy potatoes are great too. One thing we appreciated was that you can get a half-order of Eggs Benedict, so my friend ordered that plus a buckwheat pancake that came with bananas and pecans (banana was a special, normally just pecans). Yum!

Their menu is extensive - as I said, we had trouble choosing breakfast. I didn't even look at the lunch selections. A couple at the next table ordered the granola and fruit plate and it looked wonderful too.

I definitely...

I was in the area and had a craving for biscuits and gravy. Haven’t been here in a while and thought I’d give their biscuits and gravy a try. They were really good! The biscuits were dense while also super fluffy, and there was a decent amount of gravy, but I do feel like the gravy could’ve used a tad more pepper. Other than that, it was delicious. The gravy was the perfect consistency. I also ordered a side of bacon and it was perfectly cooked, chewy with just the right amount of crispness. Plus the guy who took my order was very friendly and helpful, the food came out quickly, and prices were very reasonable. I’ll be back! Side note — it’s so weird to see the bakery display cabinet so empty. Not really sure why they decided to get rid of their bakery items, seeing as their name has the word ā€œbakeryā€ in it?

This place is cute, wide open with plenty of room, easy to order from a ton of options on the menu, and very clean. The staff were polite and patient as this was my first visit. The food was in large portions, but i finished my plate of steak and eggs with potatoes. The stuffed french toast was delightful and not overly sweet. There is indoor and outdoor seating again with plenty of room to move. No music inside, which I loved to be able to have a conversation or read a book with their delicious coffee options. Everything was cooked properly and i have no complaints. I will be recommending and visiting this Birstro & Bakery again soon....lots of foods to try. Thank you for a wonderful experience. -Toni

First time eating at La Mesa Bistro. The process is very efficient. Guests order, pay first and are given a table number. Indoor and patio seating is available. Napkin wrapped utensils are brought to the table. You get your own coffee and water. There are several coffee choices - medium roast, dark roast, decaf, and flavored blends. It was busy when we arrived and stayed busy. Surprisingly, we were served quickly. We had Eggs Benedict with O'Brien style potatoes, Buckwheat pancakes with walnuts, eggs, and bacon, and an omelet with ham, turkey, artichokes with mushrooms added, and fresh fruit. The menu is very eclectic and sure to please any palate. I highly recommend La Mesa Bistro.
