First time visit. Service was fast and friendly. It was a full house, but even the Sunday morning capacity did not keep Lesly from providing great service to us. Our order of the pear waffles with a side of ham, and the corned beef hash, eggs, and hash browns—was cooked to perfection and plated perfectly for presentation. The coffee was strong and classic. Although the interior may be dated to some—it could also be quite intentionally chabby chic decor—as to follow the theme of a more nostalgic “classic” pancake house. Inside and outside (lanai) seating. Parking is limited to the front (curbside), and also at the rear of the building. The Sunshine Pancake House seems to be one of the rare gems of La Mesa, that despite the changes in its surroundings, have along with the long-time residents—have managed to stay rooted and loyal to this city.

Not impressed with this place. Spent $40 for two that I can never get back. I didn’t want to go to a chain restaurant for breakfast and found this place on Google that looked decent. The place was a bit outdated but it had a patio and indoor dining. The patio was full so we sat inside. My mom got the eggs and 4 sausage links with hash browns. I got eggs Benedict with a side of pancakes. Then a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice. The food was very basic and average compared to a home breakfast. I would come here for sweets like French toast, waffles, and crepes. Two and a half stars. I found out later that orange juice comes in two sizes and I was automatically given the larger size without being asked. That was a sneaky way to up sale.

I am so sad. I wanted to love this place. I skipped dinner last night and partied, so I was looking forward to a big breakfast. It was big but I didn't even finish it. I ordered the sunshine omelet with gluten-free pancakes and a coffee. They did bring extra gf pancakes because they are smaller than normal ones. I was very excited then the food came out. The pancakes were burnt (the food filter on my camera makes them look dark golden, but they were burnt) and doughy at the same time. They did let me sample the apple syurp, which was good. The omelet was ok but did not live up to the hype. The coffee was watered down. With tip, it was over $30. The staff was amazing. They offer a military discount.

Terrible experience. My fiance and I came in and were the only customers in the entire store. We were seated right away and given time to place an order. Once we did we waited about 10 minutes, then another couple came in and were seated. Shortly after, maybe 5 minutes another couple came in and sat behind us. BOTH couples were served and had their food out to them before us. Both parties had big individual meals whereas my fiance and I only ordered 1omelette meal with a half stack of pancakes. We immediately got up since after 20 minutes we had not received our food yet but 2 other couples did. We spoke to them at the front about it and they told us ours was taking longer because we ordered an omelette (doesn't take 20 minutes + to make an omelette at a restaruant when there is only 1 customer to cook for), and she told us that the other couples only ordered pancakes, but we CLEARLY seen the others had pancakes eggs sausage and strawberries diced on the pancakes with hashbrowns too...way more food than we ordered. They were cared for in minutes, but we had to wait. We left when she told us that. Unacceptable. Side note: I hate to be the one to say it; both of the other couples were Mexican couples, we were the only black couple..i really really hope this wasn't the reason though. We won't be...

Save yourself the headache, service was literally nonexistent. Let them sort their staff out.

They forgot about us for just short of an hour (9:45am-10:38), and despite us (with a Pregnant woman at our table) asking multiple times where our waitress/waiter was, 2 other tables sat, ordered, ate, paid and left before we even had our order taken. Eventually we had to give our order to the hostess as she was seating another table. For the hour long wait, nobody checked on us without us having to ask, and the first 2 times we got totally b.s.'d with a "ill check for you" never to return and never received an apology, not even an explanation.

It would have been faster and less of a headache to go shopping, cook, and clean the dishes. Whats the point of going out to eat if your experience is actually worse than doing dishes?

All it would have taken was any single one of those staff we asked to actually do a check and make sure someone...

Overpriced place! , just my husband and I for breakfast just 2 entree (shrimp omelette- egg and shrimp are over cooked), I ordered just strawberry waffles doesn’t comes with side 🤨 and our drink are just coffee, iced tea and chocolate milk (that was only mixed it with reg milk and chocolate syrup! very flat) and paid $63.00 already. Omelette entree only 1 choice of side either pancakes, toast or hash brown. Breakfast should always comes with hash brown but no…I have to pay $5.75 for just a side of hash brown. Coffee, soda, $4.95 ea. Server never smiled and not friendly. I chose to go here ‘cuz I found this site through google search and read reviews but it’s a big mistake I might as well go to Dennis. I don’t mind paying a lot as long as I’m happy with the food and service but this one makes me feel that I got ripped off! Both of us used to be a server before that why we know how important is the...
