Found this gem of a place in La Porte this afternoon. Delicious little cafe with AUTHENTIC delicious homestyle cooking. EVERYTHING we ate was FIRE 🔥!! The service was exceptional, making this small-town charm feel like you’re eating at home. We ordered the fried green tomatoes (seriously best I’ve ever eaten). David had the double grilled cheese hamburger with half fries and half onion rings. Words cannot paint the picture of truly how humbling that massive burger and rings were. All seasoned to perfection. I ordered the fried shrimp (same incredible batter as the tomatoes), with a side of collards and macaroni and cheese. My oh my, that brought back old memories of my family’s recipes. I regret not taking a photo, but the homemade cherry cobbler and apple pie was worth every extra pound I gain! What’s even crazier, allllll that INCREDIBLE food and we paid hardly nothing. It would have cost us 3x to make that ourselves from...
Read moreThis was my first time there, and it was a very positive experience. Every employee we encountered was upbeat and friendly. The owner came over and greeted us at our table and to see how everything was. You don't see that at a lot of restaurants now. As for the food, it was lunchtime and since they don't have a lunch menu, I ordered a kids meal with chicken strips and Mac & cheese. Needless to say, it was tasty and just the right portion amounts. I even got my cookie from the cashier when we checked out. My daughter ordered a cheeseburger and fries and it was super juicy and looked great, the only problem (not a bad one) is that it was huge and she could only finish half of it. When we checked out, the owner was at the counter, so we got to visit with him some more and he was really open to ideas/suggestions and answered some questions that we had about the menu. All in all, it was good experience and we...
Read moreThe name “The Wooden Spoon” made me think of family home cooking before I knew what they offered and I was not disappointed. Their menu options were divided by appetizers, handhelds, burgers, entrees, wraps, and desserts. Needless to say, if you have an appetite you won’t have difficulty finding exactly what you crave. The fried food is hand breaded which didn’t mean much to me until I was served. The breading is not hard and greasy, but is light, dry, and flavorful. I’d suggest the white gravy with the fried chicken. The assortment of cheesecakes, pies, cakes, and cobbler is massive and definitely worth the cheat day treat. To top it off, the staff is incredibly courageous and kind. I saw several waitresses, as well as the owner, being greeted by customers at their arrival. This made me think of a family atmosphere where relationships are just as important as business. Great job! I’ll...
