The bagels were awesome. Nova Cream Cheese omgosh sooo good. Friends brought us Bagels and we had to stop in to get more cheese. The store was fairly clean. They have a bagel machine right there as you walk in. Pretty kewl. What wasn't kewl was the atmosphere. There was a woman in the kitchen cooking when I got to the register. My first time in didn't know who was gonna ring me up. She NEVER smiled and offered someone would be right with me like you think she would. I waited at the counter for a while standing in front of the register with the cream cheese I got from the case. The chick in the picture I uploaded of the dining room Black hair glasses, long pony tail walks up to the register RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. She doesn't say hello, welcome to Brooklyn Water Bagels, nope. She extends her left forearm and says "this" register is open. She's literally right in front of me. If she extended her right forearm she could've slapped me lol. She says it again. "This" register is open. Extending her left arm. Basically she wanted me to take a step...just ONE step to my right which I didn't do. I guess she was having a bad day. I handed her the money. She didn't have to stretch or anything. She handed me my change. Kinda closed the register loudly and started helping the next people in line. 5 stars on the food. 0 stars...
Read moreAfter 17+ years of living in NYC (7 in Brooklyn) I have retired to Florida. And one thing I miss is the bagels — so many places in Brooklyn!
And so, after a week and a half here, my bride and I tried Brooklyn Water Bagel. Visually the place looks authentic.
The signs with celebrity names kinda wrecks it. There are people here not from NYC (e.g., Jerry Seinfeld is from Long Island), and many of the names are people NOT from Brooklyn. Carmelo Anthony is missing. Bernie Sanders is missing. Shirley Chisholm is missing (she ran for President!). There are more, but enough for now.
The sesame seed bagel passed by the skin of its crust. My wife didn’t finish hers. Thin. On the small side. Toasted? Not quite. Lots and lots of eggs. Enough cheese. And 1/4 of the Taylor Ham you’d get at an NJ diner
Lots of drink choices — that was a plus. I wouldn’t call the staff friendly, but they were responsive and got our sandwiches quickly.
In short: if you’re desperate for a NYC bagel, this may work. But it’s not the real thing.
Parting shots: one part of the New York experience: I had to wait for a bathroom — and it was about as clean as I’d expect. Your door sign is three mayors and three borough...
Read moreI am a regular customer of BWB’s but may not be unless the issues I encountered yesterday are not addressed. I visited BWB before noon yesterday and was surprised to see that even though they were not to close shop for another 3+ hours, their stock of bagels were virtually nonexistent! It was obvious they were not replacing the stock of 99% of the bagel flavors usually offered at this location. Only 3-4 bagels of each of the following flavors were available for purchase: salt, sesame, asiago, Black Russian, and cinnamon raisin. All other flavors (plain, everything, garlic, poppy, etc.) were completely unavailable! How disappointing! Also, one of the two corn muffins that I purchased was stale. Normally, I love the quality and taste of BWB products, but I was sorely disappointed this time in the quality and selection of the products offered. In addition, the friendliness and helpfulness of the woman servicing me left something to be desired! Hence, I ignored her tip jar. I am writing this review only to make management aware of these serious matters (if they weren’t already) so they can rectify these issues because my family are regular customers of BWB and would like...
