No idea how so many people can call this great "iconic" food. My husband ordered his burger with the "coney sauce" which we both just simply could not find. When he pressed the button to tell them his burger didn't seem to have it on there She said it was under the cheese at which time we both did everything we could to try to look under the cheese, which was melted pretty good, to try to locate it and were unable to locate anything more than what looked like maybe an actual measuring teaspoon worth of sauce, which was an extra charge so it was quite the rip off. Secondly his burger was beyond bland. And when I suggested they simply salt and pepper the patties pre-cooking or while the patties are on the grill the car hop literally told me The reason they bring salt and pepper on your tray is because burgers that are cooked on a grill shouldn't be salt and peppered on a grill. Literally decades in the food service industry this had me absolutely perplexed. Our visit was more than a week ago and since that visit I have reached out to several people who also have been in the food service industry, chefs and short order cooks alike to ask them about this and they were all equally as perplexed 🤔 One actually works in a pretty well-known kind of expensive super fantastic burger place who said "hmmm, soooo, why don't they salt and pepper the beef before they form it into patties and put it on the grill?".... Yeah buddy My sentiments exactly. Again, absolutely no clue why this place is such a big deal. Boring, plain, bland, charged extra for sauce he...
Read moreThe food was VERY good! I had tenderloin, fried mushrooms & a root beer. My biggest complaint is the root beer was handed to me about 1/2 full. It is too expensive to get a cup 1/2 full. My husband did unknowingly enter through the door that was for employees only to ask for them to top the root beer off and I ended up with 2/3 a cup of root beer. The employees in the kitchen stopped everything and were staring at him like he had 3 heads for going in that door. I was dying laughing at their reaction. 2 bits of advice… if you don’t want customers walking inside the doors, place the ‘employees only’ sign on both doors. The door he entered had no sign. We are not from the area and had never been there. Our root beer stand has an indoor counter for customers. The other thing is If the foam is that extreme, try to find a way to get rid of the foam so the customer gets a full cup (especially when they are asking for you to top it off since it wasn’t full already). Our waitress was very nice, the overall price was reasonable and the...
Read moreReviewing the Dog 'n Suds located in Lafayette, IN: I'm a life long resident of over 40yrs. A common complaint from with in the community is the food is pricy based on the location. Coming from someone who is not a close friend or a family member, it is hard to say the food is excellent when the price is so high. I myself, like most others, have higher expectations when paying more for food at any fast food type restaurant. My Aunt said Grandpa Joe VanDame which originally opened our DnS restaurant was not as hard on the food prices, as they are today. She said the prices went downhill more so when he turned it over to his son Don. It was 12yrs ago when my wife and I realized it cost us more the eat at Dog 'N Suds then what did the week prior at Red Lobster here in Lafayette. We have not been back since. Outside of the cost, everything else is really good. If you do happen to make to the Lafayette DnS.....make sure you tip the young school aged kids that work there, which are trying to learn what it is to be rewarded for...
