I feel bad about writing such a bad review but it seems necessary in this situation.
The good: Both waiters were nice, food arrived fast, food was good, restaurant has a charming and beautiful decor and it even smelled very nice. Portions were pretty big. Even my two ala carte items were filling.
The mediocre: Sticky menus, crayons under our table.
The bad: Metal shaving in my food, could have cut my mouth or tongue on it, 1.99 margaritas were 4.99 (maybe it wasn't explained well or we didn't understand that ONLY the lime ones were 1.99 but when we asked about other flavors, he said we could have those too), 7.99 meals were 8.99, ala carte burrito was full meal price. Meal containing the hidden metal pot scrubber shaving was also full price.
HOW THE MEAL SHOULD HAVE GONE: Step 1: Oh my! I'm sorry about this metal shaving in your food! Are you alright? Yes? Ok, do you want another meal? No? Ok, then I will remove this one meal from your bill and I will make sure this never happens again! Step 2: Remove the offending plate, with metal shaving et al, immediately! It is now gone and the three guests are not all staring at the huge metal shaving I removed from my mouth and put onto the plate to gasp at. Step 3: Bring an accurate bill. Step 4: Mistakes on the bill, either explain the mistakes or apologize and correct. I certainly should have stood up and scrutinized better but I was really caught off guard. Step 5: Enjoy another day without a bad review on Google. Especially from a guy who really hates writing anything negative. I had been here before without incident. Maybe just a bad night or bad luck? It happens. Maybe we shouldn't have talked to the owner. I think the waiters would have been much better at...

the good reviews here are probably more a reflection if it being the only game in town rather than it being legitimately good food and service. we ate with a group of 12 on a slow Sat night and were seated immediately. Things were looking good and the margaritas arrived quickly! Plus sides are music, decor, and the person making the table side guac. salsa was also really good, margaritas were strong... which was a good thing because 3 dinners were prepared incorrectly and 2 of our kids didn't eat bc it took a horrendously long time for cheese quesadillas to arrive ... prepared wrong. Cheese quesadillas at a Mexican joint prepared incorrectly. By that time everyone else at our table had been served, albeit slowly and in shifts of 2-3 plates with waits of 10 mins or so in between. The servers helpfully pointed out that they couldn't do anything about how quickly the kitchen prepared food and the correct dishes went to the wrong table. The food was decent, but you probably won't be impressed if you often eat Mexican anywhere but taco bell. It's not the worst but it's not anything to write home about. So, my advice is to come thirsty and enjoy the strong margaritas so the rest, especially the very poor service and all the excuses, won't...
Read moreDefinition of prejudice = An adverse judgment or opinion formed unfairly or without knowledge of the facts. Went to eat there. Waited forever to get service, while other groups that came in after us got service (strike one). My wife if from Brazil. She speaks Portuguese. The wait staff could not help themselves trying to speak Spanish to her. Even the staff who were NOT our wait staff (strike two). I am from America. English is my first language. Though, I do speak some Portuguese, as well as German. It is my belief that, when in mixed company, a business should conduct conversations in the common language of the society for which they are in. Especially when your guests are of mixed company. To do otherwise is rude, disrespectful and prejudice. Then, to make matters worse, my food came out burned (strike three)! 😠 My wife and I have been to this restaurants on many occasions. The ONLY time we had a good experience is when a staff member named Daniel helps us. Which, has only been 60% of our visits. We always request him. My mistake was not just walking back out when we could not get Daniel as our server. Needless to say, this last visit will be our last. I am tired of dealing with the disrespect and prejudice that I recieve from this place. I am fed up! I advise everyone to stop giving them your business. There are plenty of other really good Mexican restaurants in Lafayette Indiana. Don't settle for "mediocre at best" restaurants when eating in Lafayette. You have...
