I think this new location might still be trying to find their feet. The atmosphere is friendly, and kids are welcome until 9pm. Our server was nice, but seemed disorganized; someone else had to come up our table twice to bring us our drinks waiting at the bar, while our server walked past them.
The food was okay. My husband's sandwich was missing the sauce, and he needed to go ask the bartender if he could get some on the side. Again, our server wasn't at the table much.
The worst, though, is that the restaurant was "seat yourself" during the dinner rush, which just doesn't work for a place this size. While we ate, we watched two separate couples come in, sit down, and eventually leave without anyone noticing them or coming to their table at all.
All in all, we'll probably wait a couple months before we come back, to give them time to hit their stride. Jake's is a Lafayette institution and I do want them to see...
Read moreWhen Jake’s was in the Chauncey area, I remember that it was an “ok” place. For an “iconic” place, Jake’s Lafayette is very dissapointing. When I got there, it was not that crowded, which is not common for a Friday evening. That should’ve been my first red flag. The service was not bad, but it was not good. The food menu does not have much variety and the drinks menu is poor. It was shown to me on a dirty piece of paper. I had the Painkiller, an alleged favorite, and it was too sweet. After the second sip I had enough. The other cocktails did not look attractive either. The food is terrible! I had a southeast chicken calzone, and I don’t know what was “southeast” about it because the chicken had no flavor, the dough was bland and gummy and it was served without sauce, even though it said on the menu that it was served with ranch sauce. I’m never coming...
Read moreJake is back! Large spread out restaurant and bar, plenty of parking after five, accommodating menu but lacking diet need options, we enjoyed the half price apps for Monday! Only a couple days new brings a bit of awkward interaction and am sure they'll quickly become comfortable and capable with the technology and options. Onion Tower was standard tho cold cheese. Our drinks, Peroni, Teays coconut, and painkiller were as expected except the cocktail was lacking balance and flavors beyond pineapple. Wings arrived with surprise fries, or we didn't see that on the menu, both very good, fantastic BBQ sauce! But my grilled chicken quesadilla stood out for me, above expectations and unique compared to many others offering actual tang and texture. Glad to get Jakes back in a downtown location...
