My wife and I decided to try Kitchen in the Canyon for the first time. Unfortunately, it was underwhelming across the board.
Food:
Chicken & Waffles: The chicken was overcooked and dry, with no flavor at all. The breading was decent, but the chicken clearly hadn’t been brined or seasoned — strike one. The dish came with a small amount of jalapeño maple syrup, which sounded promising, but it wasn’t real maple syrup — just the artificial, slimy kind — strike two. Breakfast Burrito: This was served cut in half. My wife’s half was basically all avocado with barely any egg; mine was overcooked egg with no avocado. Even if the ingredients had been distributed correctly, it still wouldn’t be anything special. The salsa was genuinely awful — mushy, canned-tomato flavor — strike three. Parking: This was the final dealbreaker. The parking situation is a mess. The restaurant can seat close to 100 people but has sacrificed multiple parking spots for extra outdoor seating. The tiny lot is shared by several businesses, and a man was blocking off spaces and charging $20 to park — which, after researching, seems to be a temporary exception granted to the restaurant by the City of Laguna Beach (until Jan 2026). Either way, it feels like a cash grab — strike four.
Bottom Line: Premium prices, but the quality and experience don’t match. There are better places in the area for both food and value. We...

Their staff is good but not great, so pay attention to what you've ordered and what they bring, they may not be the same thing. Just an aside. The millennials working as wait staff, may or may not understand you ... so watch out for that:) Just because you want hot food doesn't mean they agree with you or understand alacrity. The food was very tasty.... for sure! The location was super pleasant outside dining at 1pm on Saturday ... not super crowded either. Parking: holy cow. Drop off someone, let them get the table and maybe order too...and then good luck finding parking [ especially summer time ]. Worth it, just make the visit as reasonable as you can. If you can do the above, it'll maximize your time and...
