This is NOT good for vacationers. Ceramics is a process. After creating your masterpiece it needs time to thoroughly dry before going into the kiln. Then, you need to paint it, let it dry (actually not much time) the put it back into the kiln, let it cool off then pick it up.
My gripe...... We created our pieces on August 8th, was told they were ready to be painting on 8/23, that's more than 2 weeks later. We could have left them to be placed into their kiln, but then drive back AGAIN for the 3rd time to pick it up. Luckily, we have a friend with a kiln.
During the Summer when you have all these guests from around the world, your kiln should be running to accommodate your customers that you book or buy a larger kiln.
The Festival of Arts does this, we didn't have to wait very long for the first firing and the glaze was fired...
Read moreIt’s fine. I booked a 1 hr beginner course and I felt very controlled (in a bad way). Each time I got a turn on the wheel, the instructor kept telling me to let her do it and I ended up just sitting there while she did MY piece. I’d rather have mistakes than have a teacher complete my work and steal my time and experience. I felt like I didn’t have the chance to be creative at all and my instructor kept talking to her friends and joking around. It’s not very professional but if you’re into that homey relaxed atmosphere you’ll like it here. They aren’t serious about their work and instructions are often vague, giving you free rein to do whatever even if you’ve never done this before.
Coloring my pieces and glazing was a better process I guess. Very simple, included in cost, colorful choices, paint brushes, stools, turns tables....
Read moreI purchased the plant pot pottery class as an activity for us to do on my mom's birthday. The teacher, Annika, was nice, but I felt very rushed the entire time. There was only three of us in the class, so I felt like there should have been more time to actually teach us how to use the wheel oppose to just fixing our mistakes and moving on. How will anyone ever know if they like making pottery and want to pursue classes if they don't get a chance to learn how to use the wheel. The whole thing felt almost scripted. I also didn't like that we didn't get the option to paint our own pieces. The class was $62 a person - just seems like there should have more to it for that price. My suggestion is make the classes an hour and half and allow the students to paint...
