First, we had the Shrimp Ceviche. The ceviche was on the bland side. The big mistake was serving it with heavy, yellow corn, fried tortilla chips. The chips overpowered the ceviche. I would recommend a very light white corn chip for a more balanced dish. I was considering the chowder, but I saw some and it was too thick, not a proper New England style chowder. Next, we tried the Drunken Clams and Fritters. This dish had a similar issue. The fritters, unlike the photo, were coated with seasoning and were overpowering for the bland and significantly salted clam broth. When I saw drunken clams, I was thinking it might have been modeled after the famous drunken noodles (Pad Kee Mao) but I was mistaken. The picture of the dish was misleading. It showed plain fries and clams with diced tomatoes or red peppers, and parsley but these were not present in our dish. I would recommend more vegetables and garlic for some flavor. In particular, green pepper, onion and diced tomatoes, with less salt would have produced a much better culinary experience. I find over salting to be a sign of poor quality. I will say the house wine was definitely drinkable, and the pours were generous. However, there is nothing special about the food that makes me want to return. One final point, unrelated to the food. The men’s bathroom toilet did not flush and was getting ripe. While this was a turn off for a restaurant bathroom, I would have come back if the food...
Read moreI hope my opinion will change and I grow to love this place. Fish restaurants are needed in this area. It is very popular and small so very crowded the 2 times I've been. First time I ordered a garlic shrimp dish that was delicious EXCEPT it was the only time in my life I was served shrimp cooked and served with the shell ON. You had to pull the shell off with your fingers with all that sauce on the plate. A mess if you are on a date. The meal would have been excellent if they had done the prep work in the kitchen and served shrimp with no shell as every other time in my life when I ordered a dish like this. Second visit I ordered cioppino. The flavor was just a bit off for me and it was loaded with squid my least favorite of the ingredients. Lots of mussels, 1 or 2 shrimp, lots of teeny tiny scallops (I normally love scallops but these itty bitty ones had no taste) 1 piece of other fish. Whether you go to eat in or take out, there is a crowd of people around the small register area which is also where people are waiting for take out. Not designed well. My suggestion, go off hours and it should be more pleasant. There is a small outdoor...
Read moreOur go-to spot for seafood in Laguna Niguel. We have been going to the one in San Clemente for a year or so, and were excited to see them open a location here. Growing up on the East Coast, I have an appreciate for good seafood. Their Drunken Clams, Oyster Po' Boy sandwich and clam chowder are all excellent, as are all of the other dishes we have tried. Also a good selection of local beers. Best of all, the prices are GREAT, in a time when restaurant prices are up everywhere. The upcoming addition of an outdoor patio will increase their seating and make it even better. Also, be sure to check out their 3-5pm Happy Hour.
Highly...
