Shipley Do-Nuts — Restaurant in Lake Charles

When I moved to Lake Charles, and asked for donuts Shipley's was the first place people spoke highly about, and I can certainly see why after going a few times. Today I went and ordered a bearclaw, a bullseye, a glazed donut, a sausage and cheese kolache, and a Thai tea. Starting with the weakest, the sausage and cheese kolache: so flavorless and forgettable, way bready, barely any cheese, and the sausage is subpar. Just overall very forgettable, not bad, just bland. Next the donuts, I almost never get a bearclaw, but I really enjoyed it, I believe they warm up the donuts right before they serve them which definitely helps with the whole experience. Thirdly, the bullseye, a donut I've never seen at any other donut place, and I 100% recommend it, it's basically a chocolate glazed donut, sprinkles, and instead of the hole in the middle, it is a small bowl filled with cream. I don't want to look up the nutritional facts of it, but it is something I have ordered before and will order again. Finally, in my opinion the best surprise is their Thai tea. I used to frequent a Thai restaurant in Atlanta specifically for their Thai tea and it was one of the many things I missed after moving away; however the Thai tea there is so similar and delicious, I would go to Shipley's just for their Thai tea. My only complaint, if I could nitpik it, is I wish it had less ice, but also was colder, like I'd prefer if maybe it was premade in a cold fridge? But the fact that they make it fresh to order is a charm of it though.

This franchise does not participate in the Do-Happy Rewards program. They are listed in the app and they are setup for the rewards program but they have disconnected the scanner so that you cannot check-in. I told them the issue with the scanner is that it is not plugged in; I even offered to plug it back in for him. That’s when he informed me that it was unplugged intentionally. On top of that, there is a sign in the window stating that they accept ALL COMPANY AND COMPETITOR COUPONS. They do not. The menu clearly read: Sausage Kolache and Sausage with cheese Kolache. I asked for one without cheese. The young man who waited on me stated that they didn't sale them without cheese. When I asked why it was on the menu, he threw his hands up in the air and rudely replied, " I don't know. ..I don't make em!" I was shocked!
