Waffle House — Restaurant in Lake City

I used to frequent Waffle House when I was a starving college student. There was one right by me in Davie but I haven't gone in many years. After a sleepless night in a seedy hotel we were in the area to grab an SD card for our camera before heading up to Ichetucknee Springs State Park to go tubing. I wanted to have a filling breakfast because I wasn't sure what the food situation was at the park. My daughter had never been to Waffle House so I decided it was time she found out what is all about.

When we waked in it was pretty empty and we were invited to sit where ever we liked. I wanted certain items and I was too tired to go over the menu. Thankfully our waitress took what we wanted and put it into the most money saving configuration. I had the pecan waffle, hash browns, and bacon. After insisting my daughter get one she ordered the pecan waffle, scrambled eggs, and bacon. As we waited a hilarious conversation ensued over the proper way to pronounce pecan. There was some kind of training going on so we had a lot of people making our breakfast. Everything was delicious and filling. I forgot how much I have missed a pecan waffle. As we were leaving they poured the rest of my coffee and my daughter's juice in to go cups for us to take with us. The visit to waffle house started turning our trip back into a good direction and we had a wonderful rest of the day tubing down the river. I wish this Waffle House was near where I lived. One star, but this hopefully was a one time thing. Normally I love going to this waffle house. The manager is really nice and he's always very friendly and helpful with everything, and the normal staff that's there are super sweet, so this doesn't reflect on them at all. When we went in and sat down, it took a couple minutes for our server, Amanda, who was training, to come over. No issue, I totally understand being busy, but she was talking very rudely about the manager with her trainer directly next to us for a couple minutes before even acknowledging us. Not cleaning another table or rinsing cups or anything, just standing right there talking about the manager. She turned around after a couple minutes and asked if we were ready to order, and I said no, but asked if we could get a menu. Everything else went fairly okay. I understand that it's hard to get into the flow when you're training, so her coming over to check on us a ton was fine, but the initial coming in and our first experience with her being so rude and ignoring us until they finished talking about the manager left a bad taste in my mouth. I visited with family and had such a great time! 😃

Our server was 'Nikki' and she was attentive and very nice. All of the food was hot, fresh, and it was correct. Our food didn't take long at all. They were really cranking out the orders, we were super impressed. Very good hospitality at this location!

Also the vibes were so right. I don't know who, but one of the servers was the DJ and they were playing all of the early 2000's hits.🔥

I ordered the cheese grits, crispy hash browns, and a waffle. I couldn't finish everything, but it was delicious and filling. I love fresh waffles!

My dad ordered a breakfast I think and it came with toast, bacon, eggs, sausage, and cheese grits. He was so happy with everything.
