We booked a room at the Quality Inn in Lake City, Florida through Expedia, thinking everything was set. Paid in full. But when we arrived, the front desk refused to let us check in without an additional $150 depositâa charge that was never mentioned during the booking process.
We didnât have that kind of extra money. Iâm a disabled veteran on a fixed income, traveling with my wife just two days before payday. All we had was what we paid for the room. We asked for a refund so we could stay somewhere else, but Expedia refused, saying it was "too late" to cancel. Of course it wasâwe didnât know there was a problem until check-in.
The result? No room, no refund, and no options. My wife and I had to sleep under an overpass that night because Quality Inn Lake City enforced a hidden policy and Expedia took our money anyway.
The staff suggested we cancel the expedia reservation, explaining that if we hadn't reserved through them we wouldn't have had to put up the extra deposit. In spite of the fact that they made arrangements with Expedia to book rooms, they resent that they lost money to Expedia and attempt to force you to book through them. The manager wants you to believe that this is normal, he claims other hotels do it. I will agree that I've stayed at hotels that did this, that actually have "incidentals" like a bar or a restaurant. But this place has nothing that you are running up a tab. They are doing nothing but punishing you for not booking through them.
This was more than an inconvenienceâit was a betrayal. Both companies failed us completely. Avoid them at all costs. If you value honesty, compassion, or basic decency, donât trust Quality Inn Lake City or Expedia with your travel plans
You are more than willing to take money from people who reserve rooms with you then leave them without. It should be criminal. Between you and the company that you contracted with to gain business you gained my money and left my wife and I on the street. You can try to blame the other company all you want but you are the one that tried to cheat them, and screwed me in the process.
Although I do have to say Bob, after reading some of the other reviews I wonder if the overpass wasn't better. I mean comparatively...

As I lay here in the pull out bed that was intended for my daughter, I was to have the king bed with my wife, I question how I ended up on a yellow stained mattress with a steel bar pressing into my back. Given I canât sleep, here is my situationâŚ
Upon pulling out the bed from the couch to do a hasty bed bug check, I realized it would be a quick check, as there was no bed sheets on the pullout or in the room. No problem, I hopped into action and visited the evening clerk at the front desk assuming this would be quickly resolved.
When I asked the evening desk clerk for sheets, this was clearly a grave inconvenience to the individual, or perhaps an annoyance, but who am I to question the emotions of another person I just met. The individual said they did not have access to them. When I seemed baffled by the clerk not having access to linens, the individual told me âthatâs just the way it isâ. This was starting to seem like a 3rd world country flop house. Kinda got the feeling⌠hey man itâs a Quality Inn what do you expect. Well⌠I kinda expect sheets on my bed or at least access to them so I can make if myself.
My wife went down to the front desk and the desk clerk begrudgingly went to the laundry room and gave us a stack of sheets.
When my wife asked for a blanket they looked again in the laundry room and said they did not have any. Let that sink in, they have sheets but no spare blankets.
As we were walking away I did give a parting comment to express my frustration of having to make two trips to the front desk and I asked âif it was that hard to get the sheetsâ. My man went right to the edge of going off. He told is he can kick us out of the hotel, right off the get. I stated I was calling corporate, asked his name, I was told I didnât need to know his name. Thatâs cool, if management is reading this, itâs your employee on duty tonight around 9pm.
Corporate saved this from being a one star rating, so I lay here with one bottom sheet, two top sheets, 15 pillow cases (yes 15 cases, no pillows in them) and no mattress pad, on a yellow stained pull out mattress.
BTW the Quality Inn in Richmond, KY. Thatâs...
Read moreWorst hotel experience ever. My family was in town for a friendâs wedding, left our room for breakfast forgetting the coupleâs wedding gift, an unsealed card with a $50 visa gift card inside, was left next to the TV in the room. Went to visit family etc. by the time we returned to the room to get ready for the wedding we discovered the gift card missing following a room service visit. Went to front desk to inform the shift manager of the issue, the girl had me come with her to confront the maids (which I found odd, but my adrenaline was going so judgement was clouded) both maids denied it of course and said a maintenance person had also been in the room, so she (shift manager) checked surveillance to confirm no one else had entered. Now, at this point I do understand itâs pretty much impossible to prove who took the card but you would at least think they would offer some sort of compensation for this but no, she (shift manager) said, and I quote, we should have secured our stuff or put up a do not disturb sign on the door. (Keep in mind there is no safe in the room) At this point we asked to speak to her supervisor but she said the owner was not in we could speak to him later. Well now we had a wedding to get to AND a second gift to buy on the fly, so we checked out, cancelled our 2nd night because hello we didnât trust keeping our stuff there, no time to file a police report either. Upon calling Quality Innâs customer service number the only thing they did was make a note of the issue and basically re-affirmed that we âshould have had the do not disturb sign on the door.â
So, in summary, stay at your own risk because their staff may steal from you, and they will not do a thing about it. I will not be staying in any hotel owned by this company again....
