Brizio Pizza Italian Kitchen — Restaurant in Lake Forest

We got Chicago beef sandwhich and a cheese calzone.

We just came back from Chicago and we’re comparing this to something like Al’s beef or portillo’s, the sandwhich bread was.. not bad but could be better, the roast beef tasted like baloney, you can tell it’s not fresh and not how they make it in Chicago, the meat is supposed to be fresh and slow cooked in broth, this meat was dry and clearly taken out of the back fridge from a deli meat package, the peppers were actually ok maybe the one good thing about the sandwhich, but I’m sorry to say, it’s in the same fast food low level tier as “the hat”, definitely not portillo’s level, and the people who gave this a 5 star review have not had a real Italian beef and don’t know what they are talking about. If you guys fix your sandwhich and you deem it to be on par with portillo’s I’ll be happy to come back and try again. I’m disappointed as I saw this was a family restaurant and was expecting more.

Onto the calzone, I have no idea why but they cut the calzone into strips, by the time I got home they were basically cold breadsticks and the cheese was already hard my son wouldn’t even touch it. Don’t cut the calzone, it lets all the heat escape. It didn’t really taste like a calzone it had more of a breadstick recipe, which is once again unfortunate because I was under the impression according to their marketing video and they’ve had this dough recipe for 40 years as a family recipe and it was a bit of a let down.

I haven’t tried the pizza’s but based on my initial impressions I probably won’t come back.

I will say the atmosphere and service was 5 stars and everyone was very nice, and the prices were reasonable, but I’d rather pay a little more if it means the quality was better.

I really don’t understand how you can offer vegan cheese as an option if the dough itself is not vegan??? I’m not vegan but my son has a dairy, egg, and nut allergy so I was thankful they were open on thanksgiving so we could get some pizzas for lunch. I asked if the vegan cheese had nuts and they said no which was great. Then before I put the order in I wanted to confirm that the dough was just wheat and didn’t contain dairy/egg and the person taking my order went to ask the kitchen and she came back saying the dough contains dairy. She said the gluten free and cauliflower didn’t. So I asked if those contained egg and she said it does. She also said the chicken tenders contained egg and dairy (in our experience if the restaurant gets the tenders from a supplier they usually only contain soy and wheat but if they make it in house they have their own batter - not sure which version they had and at this point I didn’t want to continue asking questions about allergens). Long story short we left without being able to order any food. However we have eaten there in the past and the food was okay. Wish they offered a true vegan option for people who are vegan or have allergies. If I’m wrong about this I will update my review. Absolutely my go to Pizza stop in South OC. Pricing is decent, menu options are easy to navigate in person or online, the service is on point, delivery drivers are prompt (I literally live less than a mile away from location) yet the driver always approaches with a smile, prepared, courteous (reviews my order and total owed) and very patient. When I pick up an order, I’m always greeted with a smile from an employee who is attentive, efficient, and willing to provide options if I’m in a indecisive . Pizza is quite “unique” compared to your average fast food or larger corporate locations like Pizza Hut,Dominoes, etc… Absolutely delicious, pizza slices are cut thoroughly, and the appropriate amount of toppings too (one is able to taste and enjoy each flavor, “less is more”) the sauce is near perfect, dough is always fresh and prepared correctly… honestly I could go on and on with the several options of sides,salads, and so forth, so I’ll stop myself from continuing and simply say, “ if your tired of ordering the same ol pie from the usual pizza joints around your home, or if your on the hunt, looking to find that “special” spot, your really don’t need to look any further than BRIZIO, give this a try and you’ll thank me...
