Wayside Pub — Restaurant in Lake Jackson

I'm afraid to post a perfect review. It's usually ignored as overly zealous by someone with an agenda. I'm also afraid this place will become so popular the quality and service suffers. This place always delivers. Always. I've never had a single bad thing to say about any of our meals or service. This place is unassuming, the staff is wonderful, and the food is exactly what you think of when you think of the dish.

I've had a wide range of dishes from the pastrami sandwich to the burgers. My wife keeps getting the spicy chicken salad and that's because you get an entire chicken breast or more on the salad.

Everything is obviously fresh ingredients. If there's anything from frozen, the chef is an expert at hiding that fact. It's quality and quantity. Well done.

Update: Tonight's dinner was slow to come out, but it was perfect. I always order my burgers medium rare because they usually come out overcooked. Not at Wayside. My Reuben Burger came out PERFECTLY cooked. So good.

French onion soup needed more onions but was otherwise excellent. Great broth. Great topping.

Don't get the mules. They never make the mule right and I can't finish it. No mint.

Irish coffee was delicious.

Chocolate cake was excellent as well. Probably not made in house, but whoever they're buying them from are...

Came here on a Thursday night, it was almost empty. The hostess sat us and told us she would be our server and asked if we would like anything to drink. We hadn't even opened the drink menu yet. We asked her for more time. She disappeared and never came back. 20 min passed and finally when we had had enough, my husband has to ask someone else to help us. The manager heard my husband's complaint and did nothing, did not apologize, did not comp anything. We ended up getting another server. A while later, when our server was getting our dinner orders, the girl finally showed up after being missing for over half an hour. Throughout the night, she would walk by and throw dirty looks our way as if it was our fault she disappeared and lost a table. Besides being exhausted, starving and having to wait forever for our drinks and even longer for our dinner, the food was actually quite good. We may give this place another try but if this happens again, I'll be posting again and we'll never set foot in this establishment again. We come every Thursday night and always sit outside and have our granddaughter that is four. The food is usually delicious and the atmosphere is always great with good music and just chilling. Tonight however was a different story. Beef tacos were cold and the beef was not tender but rather tough and chewy. Our waiter was awesome. The atmosphere was completely different tonight. There were a lot of people not sitting but just standing around and drinking which is fine but the language they were using was nothing I wanted my 4 year old to have to listen to. Then there were two women yelling and screaming and cussing at each other and I really thought there was going to be a fight. That’s when we left. I just think the lady waiting on that table should have brought it to the attention of management and it should have been handled where customers didn’t have to listen...
