My wife and I tried this place for the first time today based on a recommendation from a customer at work, as well as past "positive" reviews of their food.
Whenever we try a new pizzeria, we tend to go on the conservative side with our first visits by ordering a cheese pizza and/or a cheese calzone. We decided this evening to try both their cheese calzone and "thick crust" pizza.
Generally when anyone orders a calzone, they should expect to find a healthy mixture of ricotta and mozzarella cheese stuffed inside a soft-baked crust. Instead, all there was to be found was a gigantic chunk of halfway cooked mozzarella and oil. If there was any ricotta inside of it, it was whatever the cooks scraped from the bottom of their container to put in this calzone. This was not a calzone, but rather oily, stuffed mozzarella bread coated with an excess of parmesan and garlic.
When I first opened the pizza box, I was hoping to see a pizza with a thick crust similar to a sicilian pizza, or at least with a thicker base for each pizza slice. Instead, it looked a regular crust, which made me wonder what the difference was with their thick crust and regular crust that's listed on their online menu. As soon as I grabbed the first slice, I noticed how soggy the pizza was. There was oil stains on the bottom of the box and puddles of it on top of each slice. The pizza itself was folding over like wax paper, showing once again that this was NOT a thick crust. After taking a few bites of the pizza, the only flavors I or my wife could taste were the oil from the cheese and the herbs used in the sauce (possibly rosemary). I am usually the type of person that can knock out at least half of a large pizza by myself. But with this pizza, I could barely eat two slices of it before I started feeling nauseous from its taste. Even our dogs were disappointed with the way the pizza crust tasted.
Maybe this franchise does normally make good food and we just happened to get a bad batch of food from the cooks on this particular Saturday. That being said, we will not being giving this pizzeria a second chance in the foreseeable future and for now on I will be taking pizza recommendations from my customers with a heavy...
Read moreWe've lived in the Heathrow area for 23 years. We don't eat out much as I love to cook. I had heard of Tomasino's and had seen a menu online. It's off the beat and path of my daily rounds so it was one of those "I've got to try this place". Well it took till 2021, but this former NY'er finally made the time...The Don Tomasino is RIDICULOUS. I almost got a hernia lifting the 18" to the car. "Bianca topped with our special recipe, breaded eggplant with spinach & tomatoes drizzle with our special pink sauce. If Pizzas had a boss, it would be this pie" ..since then we've had a dozen more and this 5'11" 220 lb guy can't eat more than 2 slices. We've also referred others in the area and they have been equally impressed. Tonight our daughter was visiting and wanted to buy us dinner--we went for the Eggplant Parmigiana, Mama’s Mac & Cheese, and the Pasta Vivianna. All very good and the eggplant was EGGCELLENT...perfect thickness and crispy. Portion sizes are right-not skimpy and not so much as you get sick from stuffing your face. Prices are reasonable, even on the low side for today's higher costs. The dinners came with garlic knots that were all wonderful...not greasy or overpowering..no aftertaste. My daughter ordered via DoorDash tonight, but we've done takeout, and eat-in as well. This is the real deal and one of the best in its class in the Seminole...
Read moreI have been going to this location in Lake Mary since they opened and also to the one on Redbug in Winter Springs. I have absolutely nothing but good things to say. The warmness and friendliness of the team members plus the good and consistent food is always what brings me back. Recently, I placed an order for delivery and the food arrived on time along with a very nice delivery agent. But, unfortunately one pizza had not survived the journey intact. I called to see about a possible solution and was met with understanding and an offer to either refund the cost of the sad lost pizza or to send another one over as originally ordered. I chose the latter and it arrived soon enough to be enjoyed by all of us. This is the reality of business and it was handled well. Alas, they have once again done well in all aspects. I recommend this restaurant to any who may tire of the large franchises or...
