I have had this ice cream in both San Francisco and in the Portland and lastly Lake Oswego locations, the flavour in SF, CA 2020, was the bomb!!! dark chocolate with black sesame/sea salt brittle, the tres leches strawberry too sweet for my taste , to sugary overrides flavour every time , this is my opinion and that of dessert makers, ice cream and confectionery.
At the Portland location I had two types of chocolate and the strawberry balsamic black pepper this was in 2018. I walked 4 miles for this as a first time customer. I have a very distinct pallette for sensing infusions etc. This last visit in LO, Oregon was a letdown I had all the floral flavour ones, remember this is my opinion, The Straticella was bland in flavour and icier in texture no tea flavour at all texture not good, I was dissapointed, the mochi, with rosewater had a wonderful texture but to faint in the rosewater ribbon, I could barely taste it nor like smell as that goes hand in hand, the saffron honey was very, very very sweet, coyingly, honey was very present, the sugary nature did not allow for any hint of saffron and the flowers had no taste. Honey, sugar overload
It was a warmer evening, but this ice cream was melting before my husband even got out off the ACd location and I did not want melted ice cream, my cone broke off outside onto to pavement as it was served upside down in a cup. This ice cream this last visit was my birthday gift and it's a luxury item and very expensive. I was not impressed by flavour, melting, tuned upside down in a cup and cone breaking off outside onto pavement within 2 minutes.
My husband had the rhubarb one which was delicious, I wished I got that one instead of Stratocella. The balsamic strawberry was like getting hit with raw vinegar it was horrible, compared to having it before, His ice cream was melting in his cup before leaving facility as well. This is my experience I expect a lot from SAS as they are a luxury for some of us, it was a dissapontment this time.
I was not able to go in and taste these options because I have a emotional support animal I did not want to bring into the location. I was sensing that he was not comfortable going in there as well as myself so I could not taste some of these beforehand but I was trusting that they would meet the description I will give 2.5 stars for flavor And because it was melted I am going to give it a . I was expecting...
Read moreSalt n straw is definitely a stand out when it comes to ice cream shops. Personally I’m not into 3/4 of their flavors as they are all either too salted or just plain funky flavors.. sometimes with actual bugs in them (Halloween special) but that is what they are known for so can’t ding them on that.. the few flavors they have that my wife and I enjoy are very good though. I’ll tell you right now the secret to salt n straw is the milkshake. Ya it’s a bit pricey for a shake, like 10$ or so but it’s 3 scoops and it’s worth it. You can make it anyway you want and the gem of a combo if you like vanilla and coffee.. is 2 scoops double fold vanilla, one of their staples and 1 scoops of pretty much whatever coffee they are offering. Trust me and do this! About the location itself.. park underground, easy free and faster than street parking.. but be prepared to wait. This is in downtown lake Oswego where people love to be seen lol. It’s the look at me in my new Tesla that you have only seen 15,000 of on the way here kinda place. Everywhere has one and in lake Oswego this is it. The staff is typically very friendly. Place is always clean. But dont let the trendy (if I can even say Oregonians have enough style to be trendy..? Debatable) people packed line keep you from tasting as many flavors as you want. You won’t see them anywhere else so might as well try um out....
Read moreI was excited to go here and seeing a lot of people around but not a long line saw the obvioius line. I asked the ladies standing outside the door if they were in line in case they were and they looked at me and didn't say anything. So I went around them and walked in and got in the line. 2 minutes later a staff member comes up and says we jumped the line in front of the ladies and asked us to get to the back of the line (which was about 10 people longer now), we explained they didn't look to be in line and we asked and they appeared to hear us but didn't respond or didn't move up in line, so we walked into the store up up to the line. The staff member was insistent that we go to the back of the line, so we just left. While this might be a little thing it was enough to keep me and my family from ever feeling welcome. There are dozens of other great ice cream shops around the area and I would rather take my business to places where...
