Good food but the worst service I have ever experienced. They do not honor reservations.
I made a reservation days in advance via phone for my boyfriend’s birthday (party of 2 for 630). When we arrived a few minutes early, they had no record of our reservation, even after I politely reminded them twice. Despite this, they offered us measly seats at the sushi bar/take out space with barely any space to eat instead of a table. I had to be firm and insist on our reservation. This was very upsetting because I would have chosen another restaurant if I knew they treated reservations this way.
Once we were finally seated, we were given menus and waters but then ignored for 20-25 minutes. I noticed that the table beside us had a plaque indicating a reservation for a party of five at 5:45, so they clearly honor some reservations, just not others. Also we witnessed many larger groups and parties with children without reservations getting greeted at their tables at a much faster pace.
When we tried to order drinks, the server told us they were out of the first two beers I requested. I finally asked for a third option, assuming it would be the same size, but the server brought a smaller size, which is more expensive per ounce. This normally wouldn’t be a large issue, but given all the other issues with the night, it compounded my disappointment.
The food came out without any sense of urgency. Other tables were automatically set with wasabi and ginger, but I had to ask for it when our sushi came out. Given the high prices, I expected better service. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
It was my boyfriend’s birthday, which I mentioned to them at the start of the evening, making the experience particularly disappointing. We will not be returning or recommending this restaurant to our local friends who are avid sushi lovers. We would only consider coming back if we were guaranteed that the service had...
Read moreThis is one of the only negative reviews The Empty Plate has written in a while. Food quality was pretty good but it’s all self-ordering if you dine in. There are no descriptions on the online menu and no one to ask except the food runner who didn’t know what chardonnay was or what kind of beer a “small beer” was. If I had known that they didn’t have servers I wouldn’t have chosen this for my birthday. I couldn’t even ask for a refill of water, so that was a bit upsetting. They also gave priory to deliveries as we watched dozens of Postmates and Uber Eats drivers pickup food while we sat at an empty table for an hour waiting for our food. Ended up leaving early since the drink refill orders we placed never got filled.
Update to Tom and Tea - I didn’t have a server. That was the problem. The woman who was working the cash register for deliveries ran our food. If I had a server I wouldn’t have left early. I do appreciate your response though, so I've increased my rating to 2 stars...
Read moreI absolutely love this place. During my time in Lake Oswego, Tada was my go-to place. For take out, for dine in, for holiday, for birthday. Any excuse. The food is amazing, the teas and deserts are amazing and the environment is warm and inviting. Unfortunately with covid, the service did decline a bit, but that has happened nearly everywhere, as businesses have had to make staffing adjustments. I don't hold it against them at all and hope that others don't too. One tip if you are ordering to-go- order using the online option, because sometimes the person taking the order over the phone doesn't understand. When it's on the app, it's in writing exactly what you want. If you haven't tried the teas, try them. Lavender Milk Tea is the best, especially because it comes with a little treat. It's a perfect after-dinner light desert. I will never forget Tada Sushi any time I reminisce on our time in LO and will always come back when...
