Such a "wOrm" experience: There has to be a way to give restaurants such as this one NO stars for such unfortunate experiences.
After today's horrendous experience, of finding a WORM in my food (yes a WORM- photo attached), I will no longer be returning.
I have been coming to this Islas Maria's for approximately 6 years. I have been loyal to this particular location literally on a weekly basis, not minding the 45-1 hour commute, all because of the quality.
On today's date 12/21/17 at approx 6pm, my friends and I each ordered drinks, an order of mejillones to share and fajitas mixtas. Less than halfway of eating through the order of fajitas, I noticed something out of the ordinary within the fajitas. I used a fork to separate it and examine it on a separate plate. The "thing" was about two inches in length, curved, brownish in color, with little rings throughout, all of which indicated to being a WORM! I was completely disgusted!
The waitress was polite about it and said she would show the chef. She takes the plate with her to the kitchen and shortly comes back out and was told by the chef that it was an over cooked piece of bell pepper (Chile morron). I literally laughed and told her there was no way in hell. Neither the chef nor the owner or whoever was in charge for that matter, came to even "explain" or even apologize.
No I was not looking for a free meal, but the fact that only the fajitas were removed from the bill didn't make the experience any better. Uh hello I just found a WORM in my food!!!!!
The waitress who initially took our order did not even come back for the bill after she took the plate containing the WORM. Guess she was just as embarrassed for trying to say the WORM was a piece of Chile morron lol. Instead, another waitress came by to pick up the bill and we then left. Yes I was PISSED, but I figured rather than making a scene at the restaurant, writing this review of my awful experience will hurt them more.
I hope this review helps others in choosing a better restaurant. I will for sure not return here again. Absolutely disgusted with my experience and how poorly it...
Read moreI am really hoping my experience was an an isolated incident and am willing to give this place - and even our server, Cesar - another shot.
I came here for Father's Day and was, unfortunately, beyond discontent with my experience. I wasn't expecting a fine dining experience, but I also wasn't expecting to have an impatient and argumentative server. I understand it may have been busier than usual - and perhaps that's why our server seemed flustered and was running around in circles - but his skilled ability to shift the blame on us for ordering "the wrong" dish and not even have the decency to apologize is inexcusable. His response was literally, "I brought out what you ordered." He took forever to come to our table to welcome us, was not very clear when we asked about the menu, and always made us feel like we were wasting his time. Again, this may simply be because he was overwhelmed...but I still expect better service. Though we never made a scene or asked to speak with a manager, our server 'attempted' (and I use that term loosely) to remedy the mishap by giving us three comp drinks - though he never apologized for the incident. You would think he would at least have the courtesy to do that since his tip will commensurate with the service we believe he provided.
On the bright side, the michelada was delicious, the ambiance was great (once the music started playing), and the food was flavorful.
I would try this place again, but probably on a...
Read moreThe reason I am giving 2 stars is because of the customer service. We were seated, but no menus given. After about 15 minutes the waitress comes to take our drink orders, and we tell her well can we get menus. She brings us menus after 5 minutes. When she comes back to take our order she isn't even really paying attention to us, looking other ways instead of at her current customer. Then we had to keep calling out for her to remove our plates to make room in the table. I actually saw the waitress roll her eyes at one of the times i complained about my food. The reason i complained about my food was not for the taste, but the portion. So, I ordered a charola of langostinos and my sister got the platillo. I knew i wasn't getting rice, salad, and fries, but i did expect twice as much langostinos then my sister since the charola costs twice as much. What i got was a half empty plate, my sister got 9 langostinos and all her sides for $17 and i got only 12 langostinos for $36. who is putting these prices??? food has a good taste, but customer service is horrible. if you do come here just order the platillos instead of charola. the price for the charola is not worth it at all!!! Oh and stay away from the shrimp cocktail, not...
