El Solazo's triumphant reopening heralds a new era for Mexican cuisine aficionados seeking an elevated dining experience. Located in the heart of the West Elsdon neighborhood, this sophisticated upscale restaurant effortlessly marries tradition with innovation, presenting a tantalizing array of traditional Mexican dishes infused with gourmet flair. As I stepped into El Solazo for the first time since its revival, I was immediately captivated by the vibrant atmosphere. The warm hues of ochre and terracotta, coupled with soft ambient lighting, created an inviting yet refined ambiance. The subtle strains of Mexican melodies floating through the air added to the restaurant's charm, setting the perfect backdrop for a memorable culinary journey. Deciding to savor a trio of tacos, shrimp, cochinita pibil, and al pastor – I embarked on a gastronomic adventure that exceeded all expectations. Each taco was a masterpiece in its own right, showcasing the chef's dedication to craftsmanship and flavor harmony. The shrimp taco showcased plump, succulent crustaceans nestled within a delicate homemade tortilla, harmoniously complemented by the crunch of onion, cilantro, and tomato. Following that, the al pastor taco whisked my taste buds away with its layers of marinated pork, roasted to perfection on a vertical spit. Each bite melted in my mouth, a delightful fusion of savory meat, caramelized pineapple, fragrant cilantro, and a hint of smoky chipotle. However, it was the cochinita pibil taco that truly stole the show. Tender, slow-cooked pork infused with a symphony of smoky, earthy flavors and adorned with pickled red onions transported me to the heart of the Yucatán with every bite. Each taco at El Solazo was a culinary revelation, a testament to the chef's dedication to quality ingredients and authentic techniques. From the first bite to the last, every morsel transported me on a sensory journey through the diverse landscapes of Mexico, leaving me eager to explore more of the menu's delights. El Solazo has undoubtedly reclaimed its place as a culinary gem, offering a sophisticated interpretation of traditional Mexican cuisine that delights the senses and leaves a lasting impression. Whether you're a connoisseur of fine dining or simply seeking an unforgettable meal, a visit to El Solazo promises an experience that transcends the ordinary and celebrates the extraordinary...
Read more🚫 WARNING! 🚫share! On Saturday July 17th at 1pm I went to go eat at EL SOLAZO restaurant on Pulaski. We ordered a parrillada for 2 people w/ shrimp (extra charge). The food came out and didn't look appealing from the start. We hardly even ate and just brought everything home. At 5 I started to feel really nauseous, head ache, kept burping. My husband as well. I knew right away that it was the food from solazo because that was the only thing I ate all day. I called to complain and the worker told me the manager/owner was not available till tomorrow morning. (Sunday) She took my info and told me they would call me Sunday morning. I ended up throwing up Saturday afternoon and went to bed because I was feeling horrible. On Sunday around 12pm I went ahead and called them again and spoke to the "manager". I asked her for a full refund because the food was no good and told her everything was in my fridge. I asked If she wanted me to go show her how bad it smelled so she can see her self. She went ahead and told me that they could not give me my money back because it's restaurant policy and other b.s and all she could tell me is to go to the hospital. She told me that I had ate something else that got me sick because she can guarantee it was not solazo. She wouldn't even let me explain anything and kept talking over me. I am a really calm person and never like making a big scene but I found it so disrespectful and unprofessional. My husband couldn't believe it $42++ to the garbage. Elsewhere would have handled this situation differently. I just wanted to give a warning to family and friends. Hopefully this never happens to you or your family but I will no longer be visiting this place. Here are pictures of the receipt and the food the next day. The food smelled so nasty the...
Read moreListen - if you expect the same Solazo from the past move on. If you're gonna be cheap and gripe about the cost of their menu items, continue south on Pulaski and hit up one of the 50 taquerias along the path.
I appreciate what they are trying to do here on the Southwest side. Ownership is trying to establish a nice restaurant experience in an area where options are limited for high quality food. It's a great date night spot for sure with a full bar.
Came here with the P's, wifey last night and we had a great meal!
Of course I wanted to try everything on the menu but we started with their Guac and Ceviche. The Guac had Pico de tomatillo, roasted habanero, pomegranate, queso fresco and I'll tell ya that Pomegranate gave the Guac a unique good taste. For the ceviche, we did a combo of Baja california striped bass and Tiger shrimp. It included with Chile piquín, onion, tomato, cucumber, avocado, cilantro. I preferred the shrimp Over the bass but nonetheless, it was amazing. We also wanted to try the 3 Salsas which were Molcajete (Good), Guisada (my fav = Grilled jalapeño, onion, garlic) and Pina con Habanero (meh).
I ordered the Enchiladas con Asada with Salsa Verde topped with Sour Cream. Wow it was delicious (note - the tortillas are homemade) but ... the salsa verde was too salty. My dad had the Mole and that wasn't salty and did taste amazing.
The service was super attentive and I'd suggest to make a reservation. You can also pay via Toast. Parking is kinda limited but you should find something along Pulaski or west of Pulaski.
Overall I hope they keep doing what their doing and work the area for additional business including those landing at Midway Airport and the...
