Bartleby's will change your understanding of ice cream!
I tend to get picky about who and where I buy my ice cream. Decided to try Bartleby's because I was drawn by the "homemade" aspect and wanted to find something more local.
Bartleby's Ice Cream is made in-house! Amongst the cute vintage parlor decor and fun colors, there are windows for customers to peep inside the kitchen and see what's cooking!
Overall, the ice cream is creamy, but more than anything has a buttery flavor that surprised us. The staff was very friendly and there was no limit on trying flavors, which was important because there are so many options you are going to want to try them all!
I ended up getting a waffle cone (also made in-house) with Honeycomb Crunch ice cream, cookie dough chunks, and peanut butter sauce.
The Honeycomb Crunch is made from candy bars sourced from a local shop like many other items on the menu. It reminded me of a Butterfinger ice cream. The cookie dough comes from their partner, You're A Cookie!, and is gluten-free but very chunky and dense. The peanut butter sauce is delicious if you're a peanut butter fan like me!
♻️Bartleby's also makes an effort to compost which was pretty neat!
There is outdoor and indoor seating. One room indoors looks like it could potentially be used for events or parties.
♿️There's lots of space between tables, the counter, and the wall, so I do believe it is handicap accessible but there is only street parking, so I would keep...
Read moreI placed an order online. At first, I tried it for a delivery but website told me they don’t do it in my area, so I had to do pick up only. I needed it to be made and picked up on Friday at 7:00pm but website only gave my options of 4:00, 4:15 and 4:30. I called them at least 3 times 4 days in a row and finally someone called me back. I asked them to change pick up time to 7pm but was told they close at 5 so it can be picked up before closing time or can be delivered, delivery charge was $30 when my cake was $50. That is ridiculous! I couldn’t pick it up before 5pm and didn’t want to pay that much. I called them to cancel it and they still charged me $25.
Answer to the owners reply. I placed order under a different name. I tried reaching you out 3 days in a row a week before this order was needed to be done and every time I called you it went to the voicemail. So please do not tell me I was not trying to call you. Hours of pick up hours are also different than of google maps working hours. since it’s not specified it is your problem. Delivery was not working for me since I leave outside of chicago and when I finally got in touch with you I was offered a delivery that was priced more...
Read moreUPDATE!: We had our wedding reception on 10/1, and Bartleby's once again knocked it out of the park. We had a two tier ice cream cake that was devoured by the end of the night, plus an array of ice cream sandwiches. The vast majority of our guests were NOT vegan, but raved about the desserts. Thanks again for being amazing!
I'm so happy I found Bartleby's! My partner and I are both vegan, and I had become quite discouraged in my search for wedding cake vendors that A. had vegan options and B. had vegan options that actually tasted good! Enter Bartleby's Ice Cream Cakes! I was blown away by the amount of vegan flavors and baked goods they offer. AND the flavors are delicious! The ice cream is so creamy and smooth, something that can be tricky with vegan ice cream. In addition to doing the tasting kit from them, my partner also ordered me a custom cake for my birthday. What better way to celebrate than with vegan ice cream that looks like my corgi?! We shared some of the cake with other vegan friends, who also gave rave reviews. I can't wait to order more cakes and finally narrow down the flavors for our wedding order. Thank...
