I really don't know how to review this place.
I went on a Friday night with a few friends, and it was very chill. The Olympics were on the TV, maybe 20-30 people were there watching. The decor is really great, I love the ambiance, and the server was VERY thoughtful and attentive to us. Clearly we had arrived pre-Friday night "rush," and the atmosphere was lovely. I even threw some Guns N Roses on the TouchTunes, because GNR is awesome.
People started to arrive in droves as the night went on—which is understandable for a bar in a great location in Lakeview/Lincoln Park. The crowd was a very "basic" typical Wrigleyville sort of crowd: early 20s, a lot of polo shirts, and more makeup on the girls than necessary. But that was fine. The decor was still cool and the vibe was chill.
Then, someone got a hold of TouchTunes.
The first song (s)he played was "Jumper" by Third Eye Blind. Very basic 90s song. Okay fine. Then "GO CUBS GO" played. Who PAYS to play that song?? Honestly?? It's not real music. I mean I get it, we're within a mile or so of Wrigley Field, and the Cubs are doing great, but if you have any modicum of intellect or individuality, you would never consider actually playing this at a bar. We had quickly descended into the land of Chads and Trixies. And then Outkast played. "Hey, Ya." Was it suddenly 2003 or something? I couldn't handle it. We left.
Obviously there's a lot of my personality in this review, and I get that. If you're looking for a cute bar with a lot of local charm, this is not it on weekends. If you're an idiot bro who is obsessed with songs like "Don't Stop Believin'" and you enjoy doing shots of Malort and Jägermeister while talking about the latest athlete trades du jour from your local sports team, or you wear too much makeup and love selfie sticks and wearing too much lip gloss, then this place will be like heaven to you on weekends. But I can't give it 5-stars, because it's just not my scene.

Read moreWe visited The Burwood Tap a few months ago when we were in Chicago & did the Prohibition tour. We thought it was a cool spot & would like to revisit when we came back to Chicago. That visit was yesterday, Thursday 9/28. While it’s a neat little place the bartender was horrible, with zero personality. There were 3 people total in there & we were 2 of the 3. For someone who makes a good portion of their income from tips I would’ve had an expectation of a little conversation from the bartender. Needless to say, we were one & done & found ourselves a much more lively establishment where we sat for hours chatting up other patrons and the bartender . Don’t waste your time or your money, there are way more choices with...
Read moreI have never been assaulted by an employee of a bar until this weekend. I do not know the woman who was working at the Burwood Tap, but as we were sitting down at a table enjoying drinks this woman was very rude. We asked her to please not be rude while we were cleaning up our things and this woman sprayed me with disinfectant spray. I've never had this happen to me before in my life. I immediately made a scene about the situation and the police were called. Anyone who works in the customer service business knows that what this woman did was completely out of line and consequences will be coming for her actions. I urge everyone not to support a business who hires employees of this nature because this was completely...
