Taco & Burrito Express — Restaurant in Lake View Township

Highlights: • Food was decent but portions were much smaller than other Taco and Burrito locations with the same price. • Atmosphere was alright, hole in the wall diner vibes without the cute or cozy. • Worst was the service: rudely rushing us to tip when it took less than normal time to go through the motions, the guy was reaching for the receipt from my wife and saying like "come on, come on" when she had it for 3 seconds, he kept doing it as she filled it out and literally ripped it out of her hand. And apparently in his rush he didn't actually listen to what we ordered. Details: Originally I said one California burrito and one horchata. Then he looked to my wife and I said we're splitting. And he went "no for the senorita" not accepting splitting for some reason. So she said "a lemonade". In the end he charged us for a California burrito meal and a lemonade and only gave us the burrito and the lemonade but not the horchata I originally ordered. Also he didn't ask for size of the drink and charged us for a large anyway. When I said we were missing the horchata, he brusquely said he didn't charge us for it and went back into the cooking area without helping. All other patrons we saw come and go, this man treated better for no apparent reason. One guy came in for a togo order and this server said "is there anything else I can get you", "gracias, have a good day amigo", etc. But not one moment of good service or common politeness to us. Horrible experience. The main appeal of this place is that it's open 24 hours, as taco burrito palace across the street offers better and more food at lower prices. If coming in when the palace is closed means you'll be exposed to violent drunks with the staff cheering them on then there's absolutely no reason to come to this place.

I was drinking with a buddy who was in town and I ran out to grab some burritos. I walked in to find one customer violently berating another. Not knowing what preceded this I decided to just stay back and out of the way. When one left the restaurant the other strutted around triumphantly. I sat back nervous whether I'd be attacked for trying to order. Another customer who was also obviously uncomfortable with the situation as well went to the counter and asked if his food was almost ready. Our cocksure belligerent took this as disrespectful to the staff and in short order punched the anxious customer in the face causing him to spurt blood from his nose.

I know a restaurant can't always control their customers but you can absolutely hold them accountable for how they react to such actions. As I snatched some napkins to aid the anxious man I was appalled to see the cooks celebrating the assault rather than calling the police or even telling the belligerent to leave.
