Walking home looking for a spot to grab a last drink with my wife. Around 10 o’clock walked in and sat at the bar. My white wife leaves to use the restroom. I sit at the bar. Two different employees behind the bar look at me in the eye and don’t acknowledge me, turn and walk away. I say to myself, I’ll wait till my wife gets back before anything is awry. I quickly figure out because I’m a black man at a non-descript gay bar. I will be treated as a 3rd class citizen. Neither of the bartenders say anything to me until my white wife is by my side. I hand my wife her bag and say let’s go, they don’t serve my kind here. And all of a sudden one of the bartenders go to my wife and ask what she wants to drink. Let’s remember people, civil rights is for all humans. I was deeply hurt by how I was treated at Carols pub in Chicago and don’t recommend Anyone dine or have drinks at this establishment. They support gay rights but not civil rights. Walking in, sitting at the bar, waiting for my wife and being completely ignored took 5-6 minutes. As I stood up before walking out a tall young man walked in and stepped up to the bar to order a drink. The same bald and bearded bartender took no time to immediately assist this gentleman. Yes this gentleman was white and yes the bartender walked pass me to assist this man. I congratulate the owner for asking me to share more about my experience. Real or not it appears mistreatment of...
Read moreCAROLS!!!!! Yes. Yes. Yes. This is a five star spot in Uptown that has had me coming back for more every time.
This is not a spot to go to if you’re lookin for some fresh veggies or smoothies. This is a spot to go to for great pub food (their chicken tenders are hot and juicy, their fries are crunchy, their tater tots are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside - which is the only way I like them). They offer a bunch of sauces and great specials.
They’ve got a juke box app to pick country western music and comfortable yet clean atmosphere, with bar space, tables, and booths. They’ve got a great variety of drinks and no-frills service that’s welcoming but not in an inauthentic way. They open up the garage door windows when the weather is nice, which fills the high-ceiling space with fresh air.
I’ve been here so many times for live music, football games, dates, and girls nights. I even had my birthday party out on the patio last year, which the Carols staff worked with me on to offer exactly what I wanted at a fair price.
Highly recommend going to this...
Read moreWasnt really impressed. Paid a $5 cover just to enter, was told to sit myself anywhere, and then waited for service.
And waited. And waited.
Apparently there is no service to the back tables. Neither did anyone care to come back to acknowledge us or explain we had to order at the bar.
Very unhelpfully I was told that a server was available on the other side of the bar. When I asked if it looked like there were tables available the bartender rudely and sarcastically answered "I don't know."
After I ordered and picked up my food I was treated with a "chicken" sandwich with about an ounce of chicken. It was really just bread with a hint of chicken. A very disappointing waste of $8.
The best things were the hushpuppies and Moscow mule, which were delicious.
Regardless, we left before the music started but not before I verified that they indeed have a waitress that only serves one side. Similarly, I will now be staying on the outside of Carol's...
