UPDATE: I went back a second time and the ribs plus fillet sliders was amazing. What was NOT amazing was our server Megan who was less than consistently attentive, to the point my partner had to get up and grab silverware for us. When paying she also refused to grab the card and instead instructed us to place within the book she held in her hand…..very weird nice nasty energy. She’s no Olivia.
It’s my aspiration to blow up as a food reviewer and let’s just say, this is a place I’ll come back to when I have hundreds of thousands of followers. Hell if even one person sees this, I’ve done good. I was blown away by the food, but let’s rewind for a moment. The young man who greeted me was so pleasant and quickly sat me. My only qualm is the floor had a bright piece of fruit by my foot, but I didn’t request it be swept because the pressing hunger diverted my attention. Olivia was my waitress and wow, what a sweet, engaging, warm young lady! So so kind and did not give me the “are you seriously that person” look when I asked which dishes she was more fond of LOL. I came for restaurant week and she suggested the chicken sandwich with the au jus. LISTEN TO ME. When I took the first bite, I sat there and closed my eyes. I relished in the moment and felt so much gratitude for something we can take for granted such as our taste buds. The chicken was juicy, it was flavorful, it was truly unforgettable. The lobster deviled eggs set the bar initially and then I quickly realized my meal was only getting better. To wrap it all up, the gimlet drink plus blush rose drink (I think was the name) took me to mount Olympus. NOW what really closed it all off was the carrot cake. My lanta!!! I never say “ya know I’m craving carrot cake” because most people should probably not try to make it if mediocre taste is all they can manifest. But WOW. Who is the chef? Who is the baker?!? They need a hug, and a raise. THAT CAKE. LAWD‼️‼️‼️ all of this to say, I felt elated to have found you all for restaurant week and hell I know I will be back. Thank you Olivia, the young man at the host stand, and the chef who put their positivity and warmth into servicing a humble guest. Congratulations, you have become a core memory in my chicago...
Read moreWe went for brunch on Saturday early afternoon. There is a cocktail menu along with some specials; but we opted for coffee, water, and a bloody mary.
We started with some monkey bread and blueberry cornbread. We ordered avocado toast, eggs benedict and biscuits & sausage gravy.
Don't forget to add hashbrowns if not included with your entree - they are fantastic!!!
Monkey Bread - similar to bread yeast rolls with carmel on the bottom and some butter on top. Nothing too special.
Blueberry cornbread - this was way better than expected. Flaky, full of blueberries, not too sweet, but so tasty. MUST-ORDER ITEM!
Eggs Benedict - two halves with full poached eggs on bacon with hollandaise sauce. Hashbrowns comes with. These were super tasty and great! I would choose these again.
I tried some of the Biscuits & Sausage Gravy. The biscuit was very dense and dry to me, but the sauage gravy was excellent.
Avocado Toast - they use a brioche-type bread, which is excellent and avocado mixed with spices gives it a little kick. It comes with a side salad that looked wonderful, but I didn't try it.
The restaurants has tables and booths. Although the chairs are wooden and hard if you are in place for over an hour. There is also a bar area.
As for holding a conversation, it wasn't too loud during the afternoon. It was getting quite busy, but we still had no trouble talking amongst our group.
Our service started off great. Discussing the menu options and famous dishes, etc. We were served water which is served from a bottle brought over from the bar area. However, we never received a refill on water and ended up grabbing it ourself from the bar. In fact, even our last round of drinks and refills were never brought to us. We asked and had to remind our server.
Entrees were around the $17-22 range. I would...
Read moreWhat a gem! We met a group of friends for, "Linner" (that time between Lunch and Dinner). My wife and I were coming here for the first time while others in our group had been before and already had high praises for it.
The wait staff is freaking awesome. Very attentive, alert, and professional. We didn't want for anything the entire time. They cleaned plates out of the way and quickly after we finished eating a course, we got our next course out to us in a timely manner.
We got the calypso shrimp, cornbread with maple butter, and lobster deviled eggs for appetizers. All DELICIOUS! EVERYTHING was cooked to perfection, had great presentation, and bold flavors. The cornbread was nice and warm so you could spread the sweet, savory maple butter on it. It... melted... in... my... MOUTH! 😋. The shrimp were nice and juicy with a great bold flavor. Highly recommend! I also got the citizen cider which was smooth and sweet with a hint of ginger towards the end of each sip. I had the ribs with mashed potatoes as my entree. Those babies were slow cooked, fall-off-the-bone style, well seasoned and flavorful in every bite. Mashed potatoes had a creamy texture with chopped chives on top. They were very tasty. All the food definitely hit the spot. I loved everything I ate.
The ambience is a perfect Chicago style sit-down restaurant and it really does scream cozy. FYI though, if your table is near the front entrance door, you will be freezing in the fall and winter time. I'd say get one of those hot fans that hovers over the doors to help keep the warmth in. (Whatever you call them.)
All in all, this place is filled with great food, awesome wait staff and killer drinks. Prices are also very reasonable. Definitely...
