I recently had the pleasure of dining at Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ in Chicago, and it was an unforgettable experience! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and a welcoming atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious. We indulged in a variety of meats, including the Harami Skirt Steak and the Certified Angus Kalbi Short Rib, both of which were cooked to perfection on the charcoal grill. The flavors were rich and savory, making each bite a delight. The garlic noodles and avocado salad were also standout dishes that complemented our meal perfectly. What truly made our visit exceptional was the outstanding service provided by our waitress, Jay. She was incredibly attentive, ensuring that our drinks were always filled and that we had everything we needed. Jay’s friendly demeanor and knowledge of the menu made our dining experience even more enjoyable. She took the time to explain the different cuts of meat and recommended some fantastic options that we might have otherwise overlooked. Jay’s professionalism and genuine care for her customers were evident throughout our meal. She went above and beyond to make sure we had a memorable evening, and her positive attitude added to the overall ambiance of the restaurant. In summary, Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ offers not only amazing food but also top-notch service. If you’re looking for a place to enjoy a delicious meal with friends or family, I highly recommend visiting Gyu-Kaku and asking for Jay. You won’t be disappointed!

The beginning was a little rough. When we first arrived no one really greeted us and the place seemed totally empty. We stood in the doorway for at least five minutes before someone said something. And then the nice lady said it would be a few minutes before they could seat our party of 6 because they had to free up a staff person. Honestly we waited another 15-20 minutes. It didn't make any sense because it was totally dead in there. Idk. Anyway, I'm not going to hold it against them, because the food was awesome and I'm still going to come back here. It may have been the best meats out of any kbbq or jbbq place I've ever been. And I've been to dozens, this is our family go-to when out of town or vacationing. In Vegas too. This was incredible for the price, just wildly impressive all around. The family style feast options are just perfect and really well curated. Takes all the guess work of trying to order for different appetites. We had a blast and ate until we were too full to walk. Little smores for the table at the end was a nice lil touch. There is a nice and fun kids menu. But our kids just eat everything that we do and we don't have to order special for them ever. They LOVED all of the recipes and marinades here. The little fried chicken app is just HEAVENLY. Sushi was delicious. Can't wait to come back!

I understand that when ur busy it could be a little overwhelming which is how it looked like how the host was feeling. We were there on time and we asked if we could fit 1 more person at the table seeing as it was party of 4 there was 3 of us there and the other person had her friend with her from out of town. I understand it was last minute and we shoud have called ahead and let them know but he told us no. That the table wasn't big enough and clearly it was. There was a party of six across from us and they looked like a tight fit. We werent asking for a lot just 1 more person and he insisted no he cant accomadate us. We asked for a different time seeing as we had reservations he said nothing open as we can see there very busy rude. We had to tell our friends the restaurant cannot accomadate 1 more person and they sadly went back home. There food was awesome though. I luv the grill concept which is why we went. And the waiter was awesome he was so sweet and checked on us constantly. We would have gone somewhere else but we were celebrating my granddaughter being in a play and how wonderful she did. She wanted to do the grill on the table thing so none of us wanted to dissapoint her.

Most horrible dinner service I had was at this location. I been coming to Gyu Kaku for over 2 years and I never have a complaint with service until last night. It all started when we tried to order waygu witch is a very expensive cut of meat that cost over 50 dollars for 1 order. I only come to Gyu Kaku mainly because of the waygu. So me and my party ordered our food and it took them 35 mins to start to bringing us our meats mine you they only brought us 2 orderes of meat after we waited 30 mins I asked the waiter where is the rest of the food she said it is coming another 10 mins a couple more items come. Expect the waygu so I ask her where is the waygu she replied to me we uaslly recommend a fresh grill for waygu, witch is very strang because I ordered waygu over 20 times at the other locations and they would always bring it out right away with all the food not here. So okay I wait 25 more mins go by still no waygu something is fishy to me at this time because I waited over a hour and no waygu was brought to me. And they also forgot to bring me a miso salmon I ordered, then manager comes to talk us explaing they don’t have any waygu ready right now and the one that they were going to give us is Turning brown. I didn’t understand so the whole hour we waited for the waygu nothing was told to us about it having to thaw out. I never got told that at any other location about waygu having to thraw out, but I understand so the manger wanted to have us wait another 45 mins for more waygu to thaw out! I didn’t understand this at all, and on top of all this the service was horrible! I uaslly drink 3-4 pops when go eat here this server maybe filled my pop up 2 times only! And they could check the cameras if they think I’m am lieing, I would never go back to this location again. I would give this place negative stars if I could even the deserst was suppose to be hot but it was cold as ice. Ruined my whole meal we only came there to get waygu and a hour later we got told there is no waygu and we will have to sit another 45 mins for it to be ready. Horrible never again I supported Gyu Kaku for many years bringing new family and friends there but never again will I come to this establishment they are not normal how they treat there customers and on top of this they didn’t even give a 10 percent discount on the food they still made us pay the whole price of the food that we didn’t even enjoy.........

Wow! Wow! Wow! This place is amazing! They have many different levels of tasting menus depending on your preferences and party size. We ordered the $70 dinner for 2 as it seems to have the most variety. We also added the bacon chips, garlic noodles and an extra portion of meat that didn't come with our menu. Every single thing we ate except the bacon chips was exceptional. The chips weren't bad, just not as amazing as everything else. What set this apart from most places is the service. These guys get It! I've been a fine dining server for 20 years and I literally couldn't find ANYTHING bad to say. Every hostess smiled...they even holler out (in Japanese) that a new guest is in the house. The rest of the staff chants back what I assume is a "welcome". Every person you pass or make eye contact with smiled. Many items that came to the table had some type of presentation to it, giving the person a moment to chat with us and make us feel even more welcome. The garlic noodles were tossed in a hot marble bowl, split and served. The salad was tossed table side, split lovingly and served. Volcano tuna had a fun textural difference. The miso was perfect. The shrimp starter was soooo good that we poured the remaining sauce all over the rest of our noodles. The meat was perfectly sliced and seasoned and there was also a spicy egg rice dish that came with a show. Everything was explained...what it's seasoned with, how long to cook It, etc. Empty dishes were picked up before I could even push It to the edge of the table. The grill grates were changed out as needed...and BTW for those that stay away from Japanese or Korean BBQ spots due to air quality...fear not! These grills are brand new and have a down draft filter...pulling all the smoke downward and away from guests. The marshmallow on the cake was the smore dessert that concluded out meal. It was My hubby' s birthday and he said the whole experience was one of his favorites! Great food and impeccable service with truely warm (not forced in any way) hospitality, make this one of my favorite places in this city and I live to go out for dinner. It certainly did not dissapoint and we can not...

I can’t say this place is known for pleasant service. Had my niece share an unwelcoming experience, andI thought well that was once and some time ago… I made a reservation for a Friday night birthday celebration. The reservation was for three people at 7:30, the amount of time I had to wait on top of having the reservation early enough in the day was just a little ridiculous. I heard another party had arrived before us and weren’t seated until after us (their wait was over 40 minutes), anyway I waited about 25 additional minutes from my time. So after we’re seated, our server arrive, he seemed pressed and in a bit of a rush. It was our first time there so it was very difficult to understand with the speediness of his explanation. We manage to order something and we have our things arrive only to be served in such a rushed manner that the server literally spilled ALL OF the sauce onto my lap!! I was BEYOND FURIOUS!!! It was such an AWFUL experience! My clothes for the rest of the night were ruined and then he comes over saying I feel really bad.. can I get you a drink, listen a drink would never fix what I had to go through that night. I stepped into the restroom only to find him* there again. I walk out.. continue with my night as it was a celebration. The amount of times I had to look over my shoulder to assure myself I wouldn’t have anything spilled, was stressful enough! I Will never recommend this location to anyone! I had been to the other location downtown before COVID about two years prior.. from what I remember it was a much better experience. This goes beyond embarrassing for the chain (company) the portion here seemed a bit small, unseasoned, and the vegetable portion and cut was NOTHING LIKE I REMEMBERED AT THE OTHER LOCATION. Terrible! Literally felt like...
