I had KALA for the first time today and it did not disappoint! The prices are very reasonable when considering the quality of the food and the serving sizes. I ordered various sauces to try including Greek Fire, Cucumber Yogurt, Garlic Sauce (reminds me of an aioli, in a great way! I just expected something not as thick of a consistency at first) - but the Greek Fire is my absolute favorite. I was worried that it might be too spicy because I don’t handle spice well, but it was soooo flavorful.
My favorite part of this order so far was drizzling some of the Greek Fire sauce on top of my side of rice - I could eat that combo every day! Trust me on the Greek Fire sauce - it’s so good, you’d probably want a gallon of it 😂
I got a chicken, two pork, and a lamb skewer with sides of pita bread instead of going with a gyro. Surprisingly, the lamb skewer was my least favorite even though that’s the one I looked forward to the most. The lamb skewer wasn’t bad per se, it just wasn’t as good as the pork in my opinion. The pork was by far my favorite and I’ll stick to only that next time I order. Chicken skewer was fine but had almost a lemony flavor? That could very well be due to the lemon wedges that were included in most of the to go containers (which is a nice and thoughtful touch!), but I hate lemon so that didn’t help me lol.
I also ordered the loukoumades and frozen Greek yogurt. It was my first time trying loukoumades and I was reluctant, but it’s so good and very much worth a try. I’m excited to try the frozen Greek yogurt later. After reading previous reviews and from what I’ve eaten so far, I have high hopes for it.
I also want to importantly note that I received this order fresh, and was able to fully enjoy it after receiving it - which can be rare with food deliveries. I attribute the maintained food quality to all to KALA.
Lastly, the writing and cute little drawings on the delivery bag made me feel extra special and was a super classy move. I felt honored when receiving my deliver. Shout out to the whole team who got my order together! Thank you, KALA -...
Read moreAbsolutely loved this restaurant! Its design is very nice, all the furniture is in perfect condition, and the place was impeccably clean on the day I had lunch there. By the way, I decided to eat at the restaurant because a day earlier I was passing by and saw some people's plates – the food looked and smelled amazing! The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor areas. The outdoor area is very small but very prettily decorated. The restaurant has a pretty big menu with a nice selection of food, mostly Greek, of course. I decided to order the Chicken Skewer Plate, which cost a very reasonable $16. I declined the side of green salad included with the meal and for an extra $1, switched it for French fries. I also added a side of Greek salad for $5.50 and slightly modified its ingredients (I do not eat lettuce and olives). The result of my order was exceptional! Everything was super delicious! But I must say, the Greek salad was my favorite because the vegetables were very fresh, and the feta cheese was very tasty! For a drink, I ordered iced tea, which was the only option – unsweetened, but the waiter brought me sugar on the side as I requested. By the way, my only wish for this restaurant would be to get agave syrup, which would be perfect for the unsweetened iced tea. All the staff at the restaurant were extremely sweet and friendly. My waiter was super cute, as was the cashier who took my order. My food was ready pretty fast. I got the Greek salad after 6 minutes of waiting, and the Chicken Skewer Plate after about 13 minutes. My final bill for everything was $28 (with tax), and I find this amount reasonable for the high quality of the food and service I received. This restaurant has definitely become one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. I absolutely recommend it...
Read moreWow guys, please check this place out. Food is amazing, the service is even better and the atmosphere is vibrant. Perfect for friends to hang out or for family.
I'm giving 4 stars for food and not because the food is not good, just that it can always be made better and one should never be complacent about the quality, which I don't think these guys are.
Mind you it's not a big place. There are seating outside as well, on the pavement and on a good day which for me is not very humid and hot or cold and damp, the seating outside is perfect. Flowerpots hanging with view of the street and sitting with the ones you are comfortable with is one of the best times you will have.
So about food, I ordered a red donkey (amber) beer and boy was this beer amazing or was this amazing? Along with a double pattie burger with fries. We also ordered a shrimp bowl with Greek style potatoes. Food was great and the beer was amazing, especially when it was free. I meant the beer. There was a small confusion in the service and they were kind enough to compensate me by not charging me for the beer and also apologized profusely. The girls attending to you are amazing. Always with a smile and very engaging and genuine. This is what along with the food and location that makes this place special for me.
Parking is street parking guys and I parked right along the street and one of the girls said, I should be okay as she has never heard or seen anyone being ticketed. However be careful and make your own judgement please.
Imma go back again and try other stuff and let you guys know. Sorry didn't take any pics. I have a pain in the ass toddler and OMG it's so difficult to go out anywhere with the little...
