Mella Café is a cozy, welcoming spot that makes you want to linger a little longer over breakfast. I tried the breakfast combo, which is a generous plate featuring fuul, an egg frittata, kitcha fitfit, and a potato salad, all served with toasted Portuguese rolls. Each component had its own character: the fuul was hearty and comforting, the frittata light yet flavorful, and the kitcha fitfit brought a pleasant texture and depth. The potato salad added a cool, creamy contrast, while the toasted rolls tied it all together with a satisfying crunch.
It’s not the kind of breakfast that overwhelms with flash, but rather one that quietly delivers balance and substance. The space itself is intimate and unpretentious, with a cozy feel that makes it equally suited for a casual solo meal or a relaxed catch-up with friends.
Overall, Mella Café is a lovely neighborhood gem that offers a solid breakfast experience with...
Read moreMella Café is a lovely new Ethiopian-Eritrea coffeeshop Edgewater that opened only 3 months ago!
This small black woman owned business is delightful! The owner, Gigi is from Eritrea and makes her desserts in house, and does small-batch roasting of her beans for the espresso drinks!
I cannot rave enough about the delightful in-house made pastries and small bites that compliment her coffee drinks!
What stands out for me is the moment you walk in, you're greeted by savoury smells wafting of Ethio-Eritrean dishes being prepared for guests. The warm tones make it welcoming as you walk to the counter service to place your order from the friendly staff. And if you're lucky, Gigi might come out of the kitchen to greet you! She is so warm and welcoming and is rightly proud to tell you or recommend a delightful pastry she made to go with your drink order!

Read moreI had an amazing experience at this phenomenal restaurant! We went for breakfast and ordered the breakfast combo, which included fuul, egg frittata, kitcha fitfit, and potato salad. Everything was delicious! The fuul was perfectly seasoned, and the egg frittata was fluffy and flavorful. The kitcha fitfit added a nice, hearty texture, and the potato salad was a great, refreshing side.
We also tried a few pastries and the jebena coffee. The pastries were sweet but not overly so, striking a perfect balance. The coffee was incredibly fresh and aromatic, a perfect start to the day. OH, and the french bread that came with the combo—it was served warm and was super tasty! The crust was crispy, and the inside was soft and delightful.
Overall, everything we tried was outstanding. The flavors were well-balanced, and the attention to detail was evident in every bite. I highly...
