Dining at Shadaab was like a breath of fresh air on Devon compared to the other restaurants there. Right when walking in, the interior is eye-catching — very modern and elegant at the same time, clean, and well lit. I had the pleasure of running into one of the owners, Liyaqat, who was friendly, welcoming, and happy to answer any questions or just chat — felt at home here. The staff was also welcoming and hospitable, I came with a group of people and the staff was really patient and timely with the service. The food was also amazing and perfection (well priced especially for the freshness and quality you get, great portions, and definitely tastes freshly made to order). My favorite dish and star of the show was the goat biryani. It is handsdown absolutely the BEST biryani I have ever tried (catered or at a restaurant) 11/10. Other dishes I have tried are: achaari chicken (my personal second favorite dish 11/10 perfectly spicey for me and delicious), mixed kebab platter (a must try), chicken 65 (10/10), fish pakora/fry (10/10, best desi fish dish I’ve tried, was very fresh), chicken tikka (9/10), chicken pakora (8/10), and their special of the day was beef fried rice which was a very yummy desi-fied fried rice, my husband wanted the whole dish to himself haha was a 11/10 for him. Their naan is also a must try. Their desserts are amazing as well. They have truly the best trifle I’ve ever had anywhere (I am not a usual fan of desi trifle because they are usually very liquidy and fruits are soggy but the one here was not over-liquidy at all like other desi trifles I’ve tried. the custard was actually thick and set very well, their cake was flavorful, and the fruits were crispy and not mushy). The trifle gets 11/10. Gulab Jamun was also very good you can tell it is freshly made. Loved their Saudi champagne mocktail, it was fruity and refreshing. Definitely recommend this place, wish they will open a location in Lombard (the second mini Devon because they are missing an authentic Hyderabadi place like this that has amazing quality). Nonetheless, will be commuting to Devon to come back to try more foods and will be a repeat customer. Also will be catering from here for...
Read moreThis is by far and away the worst and most disgusting resturant in Devon Avenue. Please do not waste any time or money at this horrible place. The food is disgusting, cold, and under cooked.
That's if you even get any of the food you ordered. Three hours of waiting and they did not bring out our Mixed Grill platter. Then the server and ignorant owner claimed we never order this as well as other items we were not served and they charged us for.
The server literally argued with us that we did not order the Mixed Grill Platter which he still charged us for. We had confirmed the order when he repeated our order back to us and the Mixed Grill was in the order.
They never attempted to fix anything they did wrong and instead continued arguing with us until we said just give us our check
They served cold and terrible food to several others. It is almost as if they want to give up and just pay for things that you never received after hours of waiting. This is the worst Halal resturant in Chicago you are better off at Serena's, Usmania, or Khan BBQ.
Beyond the terrible food is the horrible customer service and the servers. The owners are just as bad and service was abysmal. They actually want the diners to walk away and not be served food and even charge you for things that you were not served.
Biryani: Negative 10 had old rotten rice that smells like mold. They just threw uncooked curry with spices clumped on the meat on moldy rice
Daal: Negative 10 had 20 leaves and 30 chili peppers and was thoroughly uncooked
Naan: Negative 10 was burnt to a crisp and hard like bricks
Achari Chicken: 4 was swimming in oil
Mixed Grill Platter: 0 because we never received it
Pakora: 4 very generic
This is the worst Halal Resturant in Devon Ave and all of Illinois. Serena, Usmania, Khan BBQ are better. Shahi Chopticks in the suburbs are better.
This place deserves a "Zero" they should be ashamed to call themselves a resturant! They are riding on the popularity of The Old Serena location. We will never ever go there again and hope you never have the misfortune of trying...
Read moreWhen to this restaurant 3 times in a row.
First day , ordered mutton Beryani and talha hua ghost, and 2 naans , everything was good , service good , attentive staff
Second day , ordered talha hua ghost , daal tadka and naan. The daal tadka was horrible , no taste .
Third day , ordered mutton haleem and non veg platter. I thought the haleem was good , but my other Hyderabadi counterparts who have more experience, thought it was too spicy , not well cooked and average
The platter was a disaster , everything was cold , dry and cooked hours ago and reheated , that too not properly and served. Which looks like the restaurants signature item
On letting the waiter know that everything is the plater is hard and not fresh, he argued that everything was fresh. On repeatedly telling him , that’s it’s not even hot , how could it have come out of the grill now , he went to the manager , who totally ignored the situation and the waiter kept saying , I know you will not believe me , but it’s fresh. We left the whole platter and paid and left.
If this was an isolated incident, I understand it can happen. But no attempt was made to rectify the problem even after complaining 3 times. I told the waiter , every one might be complaining about this grilled platter , as it’s not grilled fresh and is cold , hard and precooked a while ago , he said I was the first one.
I do not recommend this restaurant and would not visit again. On my first 2 visits , I had recommended this restaurant to 3 people , I called all 3 and told them not to go there , or definitely not to order the platter .
Hopefully other clients do not have the...
