Read moreWorst catering experience ever! It was such an embarrassment in front of our guests! We usually don’t do catering for parties and the one time we did, it was a mistake. The reason we chose Tawakkal was because we tasted their food just a couple of months ago when we had visited Chicago and really liked the taste.
Fast forward to now, we decided to give them a chance with catering for our party and it turned out into a huge mistake. We had ordered 1 full tray mutton biryani, half tray each of chicken 65, haleem, chicken khorma and custard dessert. All this costed us more than $450! The biryani was old and stale and we could actually smell that. The chicken 65 was ok in taste but there was so much red color in it… we felt they put extra color this time. And the worst was the fruit custard… it is supposed to be their “highest selling item” but it was so bad… the cream was all separated and the fruits also seemed old and stale. The dessert seemed as if it was prepared at least two days ago. (Like you know how we make fruit custard and it gets after bad after a few days?!) We had to throw away the entire thing. The khorma also just had a few huge pieces of chicken as if you just threw them in there. The haleem was also not like we had tasted in our earlier visit.
Anyhow, I never post public reviews like this but I felt it was important for this restaurant. Imagine serving stale food to guests at your party! Please save yourself by not eating here or ordering for...

I got Chicken 65 Biriyani, which was completely red in color and had some heat to it. Chicken wasn't most tender and was a bit liberal on salt, but overall well seasoned. Rice was fluffy and garlic yogurt sauce was great. I asked for extra yogurt sauce since I liked it so much. The restaurant gave extra for free, which I was grateful for.
Portion is humongous. It could easily feed 2 adults, 3 if you don't eat much. It is great value as it offers huge portion with quality Indian flavor for $13.
The venue itself is not the cleanest, which is shame since it offers better food than other establishment. You can order food take out, which seemed like what most customers were doing in the first place. The website provided by Google charges extra for same food for unknown reason. Chicken 65 Biriyani was $13 in the store. The same food is $18.50 on the website. Give them a call for to go order.
They serve Chapati and Paratha only when their chef is present to bake you fresh one. It broke a customer's heart when he heard the news their chef is not present. Call in advance if you want those.
Overall, it is a solid neighborhood restaurant offering authentic Indian...
