Delightful, cozy, and easily romantic restaurant near the music box and mercury theaters. This restaurant has a fantastic ambiance and separated into three sections. The front entrance section is a small cafe like experience, next will go into what looks like a much larger main dining room with an entirely different ambiance, and finally a smaller private room in the back.
Almost all of the meals were fantastic and they would have scored higher except for one dish. I'm sure you'll be able to tell which one I'm referring to from the photographs. I'll attach however it felt as though they ordered! Fantastic ingredients for three of the main dishes and felt like they didn't want to waste the box that they arrived in and took that box, battered and fried it up, put a piece of ham on it and some cheese mixed in with an old can of hunts tomato paste to make the fourth dish. Otherwise I really applaud that execution of their food. I will chalk it up to ordering wrong rather than a larger problem with the establishment overall.
This was a BYOB establishment that charged a relatively inexpensive cork fee and it look like the majority of the packed house took them up on that offer🙂
Parking can be tricky as pretty much all of the side streets around the area are permit parking only. There are two valet type parking services available at a cost of $35 each in numerous spot hero, personal spots to pop up which are often hit or miss for me since it's hard for me to know I'm at the right address when I'm in the alley :) keep in mind that there are plenty of spots along the strips on either side of the road at the front of the restaurant for several blocks in either direction. You will simply need to use the parking pay box and on a Wednesday evening my cost was about $2.50 an hour...
Read moreHonestly I am surprised of this place - after almost a decade of coming here this past weekend on fathers day was the worst service we have ever been provided. This place has NEVER had reservations and when we showed up this man by the door (older/ white hair/ had a blue design shirt on) told us that the whole place was booked up and the only place to sit was outside in the patio. So we did. They put us directly by the sun. He gave my MIL a chair and it was burning hot she burnt her legs. She was very uncomfortable because of it. It took a good 15min just to get water. Didn't even offer an ice bucket for our wine which they usually do if you're inside. The waiter took a good 45min to come out. The other 2 tables outside were being isolated as well but saw there waiter come every 15 min or so. We decided to move the tables to the shade because it was too much. Then a group comes and the SAME MAN that sat us went out of his way to form a table by the shade for them. The fact that we weren't able to get that service really upset me. The waiter at the end mentioned to us if we had come 30min after we did - we could have sat down inside but I told him they told us everything was booked and no room. He said no there is room. WHY DID THE HOST NOT SAY THIS! He could have said perhaps if you can wait 30min we can have a table inside nooo he just decided to put us outside. The waiter came quick with the check and waited until I was ready. I usually tip base on service and I have no shame saying I TIPPED 10% because the service was GARBAGE from beginning to end.
This place use to be one of my fave and I bring so many ppl here because of how great it is however their service has declined in so many ways. HUGE...
Read moreI genuinely don't understand the hype. It's packed there always. There was a line. But the food subpar. And to add insult to injury it's pricey. Which i wouldn't have minded paying if it was actually decent. I order a medium rare steak and so did my friend. Our steak came out 45 mins later medium. We politely informed the waiter and he actually gave us attitude. He told my friend "that's how we do medium rare". Her filet was slightly slightly pink on the inside. And I'm being generous. So she politely said ok and ate it. Which in hindsight is so awful of that server. For mine he said "maybe it's medium". Like, G thanks buddy. So he asked if i wanted to get a new one and I said no thank you. I didnt tell him this but I didn't want it because the food was bad and I was so put off by his exchange with my friend. So 5 mins later he comes back with my steak and says "I just want to let you know this steak is medium rare" and I sh*t you not he proceeded to show me the very corner of my steak where the bone was and showed me pink. And I stared at him and couldn't help but laugh. Dude the AUDACITY. So I'm like " OK that's nice but this part is cooked through and very chewy" and I circled the ENTIRE REST OF THE STEAK. And I'm smiling and sort of laughing because...BRO. And hes like "well I just want to let you know..." blah blah he starts manslaining steak to me. Oh wow thats so amazing I'm 34 years old I'm so happy he explained medium rare steak to me. Long story short go to Bavettes. LOL. Way better steak. Like phenomenal steak, great drinks, wonderful service and its only slightly more expensive- It's worth it. This place is so...
