Uptown Taproom — Restaurant in Lake View Township

First off, these reviews are giving they paid for them. Service took 15 years after we got our drink orders in. Took probably 30-40 min for someone to come up to us to take our order. All 3 waitresses that were working served our table, so we were very confused who was assigned to our table. We got charged for a refill of coke without being told there were no free refills. One of waitresses that served us also misinformed my vegan friend that the Brussel sprouts were fried instead of roasted. My “Cesar salad” was literally a salad that looked like I made it on a bad day. I wish I took a picture before I mixed it but it was literally was chopped up iceberg lettuce, sprinkled with fake Parmesan, and sprinkled with the dressing. Not even mixed in. Go look up the price for this salad…insane. My sister’s garden salad was also suppose to get cherry tomatoes, like it said on the menu, but instead got chopped up tomatoes. Chicken sandwich said it was suppose to be a brioche bun but was definitely just a regular potato bun. $5 tacos looked like $2 tacos. I’ve seen better tacos bought from the side of the road. Really frustrated that they are often out of stock of their gluten free substitute items and their phone number doesn’t work so I can’t call in advance to check.

When they were out of gluten free buns, rather than let me know, they kitchen decided to sub with the lettuce wrap option - which was really just the burger placed between two chunks of lettuce, not even really a proper lettuce wrap. I understand and appreciate the desire to serve me something rather than nothing, but the lettuce wrap did not seem particularly appetizing. I would have happily saved them the time (and the lettuce!) if they had asked me what sub I'd prefer, rather than making a decision without letting me know. I declined the wrap and ordered a few tacos instead, which were only OK. They of course removed the burger/wrap from our bill, so no harm done in the long run, just a misjudgment from the kitchen on how to handle the situation.

What a gem! I've been wanting to visit since they opened so I gathered a little group & we went for dinner & drinks. Atmosphere wise this place pretty much sucks. Hate to say that but it's very divey. The food, drinks & service however were absolutely wonderful! I specifically wanted to try the Beyond smash burger. It did not disappoint! It was super tasty. The best smash burger I have ever had. Those crispy edges will keep me coming back! Can't wait to try the tacos. Truffle fries were perfectly cooked & seasoned, cheese curds were so damn good. Even their dipping sauce was chefs kiss! They make an excellent margarita. On Mondays they have a great burger & beer deal. This is a new spot for impeccable food for sure! Their chef is no joke. The best out of all the taprooms by far. Would easily be 5 stars if there were just a sprinkling of pretty - but don't let that deter you.
