La Fonda — Restaurant in Lakewood

I had left a review before saying the service we had was excellent. We ate here for my daughters graduation. I have come back to say we had a 100% turn around! We went there lastnight and the service was terrible!!! Our waitress took forever coming to take our order. We arrived about 8:30 pm. The guy that walks around, I guess making sure everything is running right, had to tell her to take our order. He tried to blame a large table for the for them taking so long. Our waitress was not waiting their table! Anyway, she takes our order then goes to another table takes their order. We are sitting waiting and waiting, they finally bring out 1 appetizer of the 2 we ordered. It is now 9:39. I had my kids getting out of work at 10 and needed to be picked up. I thought we would've eaten by now, but NOPE! So we tell them we are just going to pay for what we had there. You would think they would give us a discount being that we never got our food..NOPE! FULL PRICE and we NEVER GOT TO EAT! Oh yea and we had to use our own sanitize wipes to clean our table and the wipes turned black after we wiped the tables down. We were going to leave right then, but we stuck it out because we had company with us. We ended up not being able to feed them anyway. The people that got their order taken after us got their food before us and were almost done eating by the time we left. If your Hispanic and don't speak Spanish don't come here! Delicious Hispanic food served inside a bar/cantina type atmosphere. Free chips and salsa when you sit and the salsa has a nice kick. Music was on brand, yet not too loud. I cannot remember our servers name, however she was attentive and made sure we had what we needed, as well as knowledgeable, we tipped her 30%.

I got 3 chicken enchilada and 3 beef enchilada. The beef enchiladas are made with ground beef, so if that isn’t your thing (it’s not mine) then I would steer clear. The chicken were easily better and truly were delicious. The sauce on top could be a bit spicier, although I didn’t request it that way. The menu is extensive for a combo plate Hispanic food restaurant, offering things like mocajete and other traditional dishes. My partner had the smothered chicken burrito which quite frankly was better than my enchiladas. My partner and I also had a large marg each and were absolutely right on the edge of sober and drunk, the drink was very strong and worth the $13 for a large, small was $8. For two large margs, six enchiladas, and a smothered burrito it came out to $69 which is a bit pricier than expected, however, we did drink and that did bring the bill up. La Fonda is a fantastic spot for authentic Mexican cuisine. The restaurant has a cozy, rustic atmosphere with warm lighting and traditional decor. The menu features a variety of classic Mexican dishes, including tacos, burritos, enchiladas, tamales, and traditional entrees like mole and chile rellenos.

The service was friendly and attentive, our server was knowledgeable about the menu and made great recommendations. We started with the guacamole, it was fresh and flavorful, and the chips were crispy. For entrees, I had the Chile Relleno, it was cooked perfectly, the chile was packed with flavor and the cheese was melted perfectly.

The traditional dishes were also noteworthy, particularly the mole, it was well-seasoned and had a great balance of flavors. The margarita menu is also impressive, featuring a variety of options from traditional to exotic flavors.

The desserts were also delicious, the flan and the churros were both satisfying and made with high-quality ingredients.
