Legend Hot Chicken — Restaurant in Lakewood

GET CHICKEN ELSEWHERE On Sunday 4/23 after church I sent my daughters father to pick up a walk in order to celebrate my daughter baptism. He ordered 2 orders of Leg & Thigh for $23.49 mild with some side sauces. Now when he brought the order back to California Heights the bag was stapled closed. We could not believe that we paid $64.10 for just 2 small boxes of chicken. I had a house full of hungry guests and started cutting pieces and phew.... our mouths were on fire. We then counted the pieces and realized we only received 1/2 our order. I called and spoke with a nice young lady who gave me a few options to rectify their error: store credit, refund or replace the order. I asked that they replace the entire order because we have kids to feed that cannot eat spicy foods. She said not a problem and said it would be ready in 25 minutes. We waited and my friend went to pick up the order and when she arrived she was informed that they would ONLY give the other 1/2 that was missing and their store policy was to NOT replace the spicy order that was received.

I called when she returned now upset that she did not do as she promised and she was apologetic and mentioned their store policy. Personally I don't care what the store policy is when this location is notorious for messing up orders. I asked for a call back now from the manager because he was now magically gone for 1 hour. I noticed 4 hours later I received no call back so I called back asking to speak to the manager.

Boy oh boy! I was not expecting my phone call to last 24 minutes that turned into him yelling the entire call. I recorded 21 minutes of the call that my friend took over on because my patience was dwindling away because I was unable to even complete a sentence without "Brandon" cutting me off. I am a small business owner in Long Beach and 100% believe in supporting small business but I strongly encourage you to get food elsewhere. after 23 long minutes we were offered to walk in and get a cash refund because a credit card transaction was just to difficult. Now again, being a small business owner this is not true. Along the 24 minute phone call of Brandon yelling and not letting anyone speak we were told that we were treating him and his employees like "peasants" and he trains them to call the police when anyone gets hostile.

Now I don't know about you but I don't feel comfortable walking into an establishment to receive a cash refund of $64.10 after being threatened that the police would be called on us or prepare to be yelled at in this location. What we will be doing is requesting a refund from the credit card company, filing a complaint with the BBB and placing this review on google and the Facebook.

Please think twice about getting food from here. Read other review and they are not trolls as Brandon said they were and he was not afraid of 1 star reviews.

What brought me to Legend Hot Chicken? The 99 cent bottled beer. On a hot September day, a cold light beer for 99 cents sounded great. Amongst all the menu items, a chicken sandwich combo sounded like the perfect litmus test for Legend Hot Chicken.

Chicken sandwich (buljjambong - smoky & spicy) Solid chicken sandwich. The buljjambong was more smoky, than spicy. The chicken tenders were moist, tender & coated well. The coleslaw was bright & crunchy. Unfortunately, the mac & cheese was more mac w/ a teeny tiny bit of cheese.

Service was good. The cashier was friendly & hospitable. The wait was within reason, as Legend Hot Chicken cooks their chicken per order. A good amount of seating inside, Legend Hot chicken is located adjacent to Wienerschnitzel . For customer's enjoyment, Legend Hot Chicken has an arcade/game console emulator to play. As someone who hasn't played video games in many years, my disdain for joysticks still remains to this day. Directional pads for life!

Legend Hot Chicken does solid chicken. Having Happy Hour & bottle beer promos are enticements that are hard to pass up. While not impressed with their mac & cheese, Legend serves great chicken, and I'm looking forward to...

The place was not crowded. The cashier was friendly. Agree had no trouble changing my order to go. The food was meh. I dug into my fries was soon as I entered my truck. $4.99 for warmish fries. It was a good portion. If I had dined in these would have gone back immediately. Were they sitting around? I don't know. The chicken. The good news is that they are generous with portions. The bad news is that it seemed the difference in temperature/spice was simply how much cayenne was sprinkled on top. I've been to Nashville but never had hot chicken with no sauce. It was soooo dry. Don't think anyone can mess up ranch? Come here.

The bottom line is that cool fries and five Chx strips better blow my mind for 20$. I won't be back. I don't recommend the place. But they take EBT.... so if that's a winner for...
