Mars Bar & Café — Restaurant in Lakewood

We’ve tried coming here several times. The service is consistently terrible. Honorable mention to Allison, the bartender. She’s so negative and rude- and we have had her as a bartender several times. The first time we met Allison, we thought she was just having a bad day but no… being bothered by your presence is just a common attitude of hers.

We never come at busy times, today there were maybe 4 other people at the bar. It took 30+ minutes for 2 overdone burgers… the menu says MEDIUM (we prefer medium and did not change it).

The old, water damaged menus say “ask about our craft cocktail and beer menu!” I’ve asked every single time, NO cocktail menu. Just retire those menus and take it off the menu entirely if you don’t have it and never intend to.

We are not impatient people, and we are very understanding… but dude- she checked on us ONCE. I had to ask some random guy that clocked in for a water refill (it was gone for 10 minutes at this point) because she only stayed on the opposite end of the bar where her “regulars” are at. IDC!!! JUST CHECK ON YOUR OTHER GUESTS TOO! I have medical issues- I have trouble swallowing- I physically cannot eat without drinking water every bite otherwise I run the chance of choking. Especially something as thick as the burgers are here.

We HATE the service here, but we used to LOVE the food so we dealt with it. Now that the food wasn’t as great we’ve finally decided to not come back here.

I have personally seen people walk out of here because of the service times.

It took every fiber in my body to make sure she at-least got a tip, but she definitely got the lowest amount- I work in service and I had cash ready to go… NOPE. Treat your customers better. I would MAYBE understand if we gave her a hard time or were being extremely difficult, but asking her for ranch and something on the side gets an eye roll? I had my boyfriend grab me a straw because I just didn’t even want to ask her for one with my water because she made me so uncomfortable. SAVE YOUR MONEY, SAVE YOUR TIME,...

I was there 7/30/2023. Must have went during shift change. 7-8pm. Weird time for shift change. 1st server took forever to get menus and then our drinks ordered. Finally took food order (ordered an app, 2 kabobs, and a grilled cheese). Food took about an hour and a new server brought the Kabobs.. Then another 20 minutes go by and the person I was with (separate checks) was delivered their burger and appetizer. Thought it was odd both orders didn't come out at the same time, but thought "oh well separate checks/tickets." Then, server disappeared again for a long time, almost until the person I was with was done eating and then she appeared again. So I ask where the rest of my order was. She didn't take the order and had no idea. My meal never came. 1st server must have only entered the kabobs into the POS terminal. IDK, but I will never go back... Was excited to try the food and my meal never came... I went hungry all night because I had somewhere to be and didn't have time to reorder, wait another hour for food to be delivered..

I understand it might have been busy, but not once did anyone say we are busy, will be a moment or longer than usual. Was rudely told to sit anywhere we'd like and 1st server didn't say anything about shift being over and just went MIA.

Whole experience sucked. I'll never go again because first impressions are everything and this was ridiculous... How TF you not enter in the rest of the order tho... I even watched her write it down...

Don't go at busy times or at all I guess if you are wanting to eat, as you may end up never receiving...

I went in to get a quick drink with a friend. Arya the bartender asked for my ID (which is a valid New York State ID) and came back to tell me it didnt scan. She then proceeded to tell me that she couldnt give it back to me because we had to wait for George, the owner, to come in 30 min to confirm that my ID is real and that i am 28 years old. This would have worked if i was really under 21 but i again told her it was real and that i’d like my ID back, as i didnt feel the need to wait for George to come and confirm that i am 28 years old. 40 minutes passed and still no George and I am waiting to LEAVE this establishment but cannot because Arya felt the need to hold on to my ID. I would love to take the compliment that i “look young” but i really do wonder if I wasn’t a brown woman if this would have happened. My friend, a white woman similar in age had no issues. My ID has never NOT scanned in a bar or airport, so this excuse was so pathetic. If you need to update your machine, do or say that, dont have me waiting like a child who got their “fake ID” taken away. Anyways, we had to waste the precious time of Lakewood police to intervene and tell Arya that my ID is valid. The Lakewood police confirmed that my ID is valid and didn’t understand why It was taken away.

Next time just pour the drinks, you would have gotten...
