TL:DR - Stacks is a sandwich shop gem in an otherwise over saturated market of dull rocks. I highly suggest a visit.
The rest: As it is so common with virtually ever other type of food, sandwiches are simplistic in nature. While elevation of concept and experimentation are wholly welcomed, a true expert sandwich maker knows that the way to set yourself apart is fresh ingredients and adherence to solid execution every time. Stacks has this in spades.
I have now visited the Belmar location 4 times I believe. They hold up to their 3 pillars of excellence in every way. The bread is always fresh. I don't know who makes their pretzel roll, but I strongly suggest you get one. Their ingredients we're beyond fresh as I could see them prepping on the slicer each time. It is the third pillar that makes me want to hug them though and is clearly the thought process behind the brand name.
They firmly believe in the stacking of a sandwich as an integral part. I couldn't agree more. Any neanderthal can throw stuff on bread and call it a sandwich. It takes forethought and care to go above and beyond. This is most easily tested on any sandwich with bacon and a round roll. Yet another reason to test the pretzel roll. I can't tell you the number of times I have purchased a burger or sandwich where the bacon is lazily placed in a cross pattern. Don't get me wrong, I love nibbling the edge of bacon like anyone else, but once you bite off the ends, you have less bacon inside. At Stacks, they cut or tear the bacon in half so that with two slices, when you lay them next to one another across the sandwich, you get bacon in every bite. And what kind of person doesn't want that? Every other ingredient is thought if the same way. That they toast the sandwiches in a rolling toaster is just icing on the cake.
The rest of the menu has all the usual suspects. Also a couple of vegetarian options. Although putting bacon on the "Spicy Pesto Melt" is something I would highly recommend. They even have a little kids menu that has a toasted cheese option. And you better believe I'm going to be trying a PB&J toasted at some point. Wait...do they have banana's? Hmmm.
If your overloaded with the selections, I recommend the "Turkey Bacon Special" just like the Westword. Getting something unique in a sandwich shop is not easy and the special is just that. Can't wait to go back. Keep up...
Read moreI went to stack subs for a quick bite to eat before seeing a movie. I arrived there at 7 pm ordered my sandwich and a malt and moved toward the cash register to pay for my meal. The clerk was counting money. One dollar bills next to an empty tip jar. She did not acknowledge my presence. After 30 seconds my hot sandwich arrives at the register and is placed on the counter. I'm thinking that's great that was fast. The clerk continues to count money not acknowledging that I am there. No greeting no "I'll be with you in a second" just nothing. After 2 minutes she finally looks at me at takes my payment. No "I'm sorry for the wait" nothing. I am the only one standing there. I found this to be totally rude behavior. I paid almost $15 for a 6" French dip sandwich, chips and a malt. The malt had no malt in it and was thin and runny. The sandwich bread was compressed and off in some way that I can't put my finger on. It is now 5:30 am when I write this review and it feels like the sandwich is stuck in my throat. Not a good sandwich. Not a good malt. Not a good experience. Bill...
Read moreUnfortunately it’s very expensive to eat here. I was getting a haircut across the street and the entire group of 15 girls were debating what to get for lunch. I suggested Stack Subs but everyone said that it’s too expensive and they can’t afford to eat there & if they could it would be a kids pb&j meal. After coming in to try it out I was mortified by the expensive prices. I don’t think the owners know how much money they are losing by having the prices set so high. Almost $12 for a 8inch sandwich?! Also, the “soup of the day” doesn’t change. It’s more like “soup of the week.” Do they not know what “Soup of the Day” means? It literally means: a different soup served each day of the week. I wish I could come here more often and I would if the prices were lower, but I can’t afford it when Subway is just 2mins away. Instead of making such a large profit on each order, they could make a profit by selling more sandwiches. Hope...
