The Keg Steakhouse, Colorado Mills - A First Impression Marred by Misleading Practices My inaugural visit to The Keg Steakhouse at Colorado Mills on July 22nd at 4:45 PM for their happy hour was a decidedly mixed bag, ultimately leaving a sour taste due to a questionable practice. The ambiance in the bar area, while aiming for a dimly lit, cozy atmosphere, could certainly benefit from a touch more illumination. It made navigating the menu and even seeing our drinks a bit of a strain. The cocktails ordered by our party of four were reported as satisfactory, but the real issue arose with the advertised happy hour beer special: Coors Light on draft, touted as an 18oz pour for a mere $6. The reality that arrived at our table was a significantly smaller 12oz glass. When we politely pointed out this discrepancy to our waitress, her dismissive response of "they didn't have any bigger glasses" felt inadequate, especially as subsequent rounds of the same beer were served in identical small glasses. The frustration escalated when the bill arrived, listing three 18oz beers despite us having received only 12oz pours. Bringing this to the waitress's attention again was met with noticeable displeasure. It took a request for the manager to finally address the situation. The manager, who seemed well aware of the discrepancy between the menu and the actual glassware, offered a telling explanation: "When someone brings it up we offer to 'top off' their beer." This suggests a clear awareness of a misleading advertising practice, only rectified when challenged by the customer. The offered compensation was a single complimentary beer, rather than an adjustment to our bill. This felt less like genuine recompense for being misled and more like a damage control tactic. It is frankly shameful for a restaurant of The Keg's purported standing to engage in such a bait-and-switch with their happy hour offerings. The manager's admission that they only address the issue when it's brought to their attention speaks volumes about their willingness to take advantage of unsuspecting customers. This experience casts a significant shadow over what could have been a pleasant first visit. While the cocktails were fine, the misleading beer advertisement and the lackluster initial response from the staff leave a strong impression of a restaurant that prioritizes profit over honest and transparent practices. I would caution fellow patrons to be vigilant and ensure they are receiving what they are paying for, especially during...
Read moreI am not one to write reviews but I’m feeling very off-put by this experience.. I tried to order takeout online at 845 but the online portal wouldn’t work. So I called to order and they said I couldn’t order take out past 9 it’s now 9 on the dot when I call after messing with the site for awhile. They tell me I can come in store and order take out. I decide to dine in at this point. I sat at the bar and ordered a NY strip medium rare. Food comes out after about 30ish minutes. It’s over cooked. I could already tell by poking at it since they didn’t even give me a steak knife. After I tracked down a server to get a knife it was indeed over cooked. Medium to medium well. I continued to try the rest of the food. Veggies are hard, barely even cooked no seasoning. Bartender shows back up finally and asks me how my food is I tell her it’s good but my steak is over cooked and tough. Im feeling bad because I never send food back but an over cooked steak is just something I can’t eat and enjoy. She’s polite and apologizes says they’ll remake it so she takes my whole plate. 20 mins later I have a new steak it’s cooked rare which is fine at this point but the sides weren’t replaced or left for me to eat so now they are cold. It’s now 950ish and they close at 10. I’m also now surrounded by about 10 loud older men when I was just trying to have a quiet dinner after spending all day Xmas shopping. So I ask for a box and the check. Bartender tells me she’s waiting for the manager to “fix my tab”. I’m pleasantly surprised since since she hadn’t mentioned a discount or anything and it’s an expensive meal so I say thank you and I wait. I see the manager staring at me from afar I think maybe theyre just discussing what happened no big deal. Then she comes back prints me receipt and walks away. With No discount what so ever on it? At this point I’m annoyed and super uncomfortable with all these men hovering over me yelling and they’re closing so I tip 20% still and just leave the cash. Clearly the manager just judged me and decided I shouldn’t get a discount maybe I wasn’t dressed up enough or the fact that I was alone possibly? I’m not sure but I’ll make sure to recook all my food and season it though so it’s actually a meal when I get home since I paid $80 for this terrible experience....

Important context: The restaurant was busy
Was charged $9 for creamed corn but never got it, had to ask for a new bill. When we got the new bill and paid cash, Jeremy gave us the wrong change back.
He forgot to bring bread and my Pepsi until we reminded him, and he never gave me a straw for my Pepsi. He also kept calling me "buddy." Brother, I'm 24 and you're maybe 30. You know I'm 24 because we told you it was my 24th birthday dinner. Don't call a grown man that you don't know "buddy," especially in a customer service context. Jeremy did, however, give us a free dessert for the occasion and didn't charge for the Pepsi.
Had a reservation but the table wasn't ready (had to wait ~5 min, not a big deal).
The avocado tuna tartare looked like it just came out of a can (strange presentation). It tasted good, but there weren't enough chips on the plate to eat it with.
The prime rib looked really good. Fantastic marbling. But, it was cooked closer to medium well than to medium rare, which I asked for. The au jus was bland, not very tasteful. The steak itself just did not taste that good considering the price. Longhorn Steakhouse does prime rib better in my opinion, and at a better price.
The fillet mignon with lobster was great, worth the expensive price.
The garlic mashed potatoes were just ok. They were very chunky which is fine but again were pretty bland.
The basil Moscow Mule was good. Not any better than a dive bar's Mule. Not bad, enjoyable. It's hard to exceed expectations when it comes to drinks.
The sangria was excellent, they did really well on that one.
I expected better service and better food for the price. If the restaurant was half of the price I wouldn't complain. But at this price I expect the server to not forget things, for the steak to be cooked right, and for all or at least most of the food to be really good.
2/5 stars, under average for a restaurant at that price.
If you want to celebrate something at a fancy restaurant, I would try...
