My son and I arrived about 12:30pm and planned to be there for our 90 minute session. My son begin playing at the basketball court, however then switched to the big slides where the mats needed to be used. He went down one slide possibly 3 times and then he switched to a different slide the 4th time. Once he got off the slide he begin to itch uncontrollably, we had only been there for possibly 30 mins at this time and at least 20 mins were spent playing basketball. I then advised him to go wipe his neck off as I could see stuff from the mat on his neck, which at that point was breaking out in hives. Once he returned from the restroom his face was then covered completely in hives and he begin to state he could not breathe, at this point his face is swollen and there are hives everywhere. I immediately contacted one of the workers, whom had no knowledge on safety nor a medical emergency and did not know what to do. Mind you my son has never broke out in any kind of hives to where he couldn't breathe and it was uncontrollable. I then told my son get his shoes on and as we are heading out the door I walked over to the counter and contacted another worker and let her know my son is having an allergic reaction to either the mat or the equipment, again another uneducated worker whom did not realize this was a medical emergency and we at this point needed the ambulance. My son and I then ran out the establishment and got to my car where I was able to pull up the nearest emergency room. I drive as fast as I could to get there as at this point my son doesn't look well at all and has hives all over his body from head to toe. We finally make it to St Anthony Emergency room in Lakewood Colorado, my son is rushed to the a triage room immediately once we arrive. His clothes are removed and he is hooked to machines immediately. He is then given epi pen and several other medication to try and help him be able to breathe and help the hives go down. The doctor told me this was a medical emergency and the ambulance should have been called. Had I waited any longer my son could have died from this extremely bad reaction. The staff at Slick City were very uneducated in this situation, there was something on or in the slide or the mat that caused this reaction and the establishment needs to be evaluated for cleanliness and sanitary precautions . My son did not have any food or drink at the establishment and simply used the equipment that could have claimed his life. This was extremely scary not only for me as a mother who never seen her child go through this, but for my son who could feel his airways closing in on him and begin to get very scared and depended on me to get him to an emergency room . This has caused my son to be very wary about touching anything and he is traumatized and keeps asking me if I have the epi pen available to him at all times. This has caused distress and fear, as this could have been deadly and my family could have took a big loss and lost a big important piece to our family. As a mother I feel like the equipment is not sanitary, the staff was uneducated and had no interest in helping us during this extremely scary situation. My son was evaluated for over 4 hours after this happened. He still has very swollen eyes due to the severity of the reaction. I am saddened as this was his first time there and he went to enjoy some fun with a friend. As a mother I am extremely afraid to allow my son to ever go back to Slick City, as he has been to places where there are trampolines and equipment that others use and has never had an allergic reaction to anything. Please help us in figuring out the best way to go about this...
Read moreomg!!! there is no place like it! you can let your inner child out an enjoy the feeling of sliding like you did when you were a kid. an you don't have to sit on your butt like you did as a kid to go down. tummy sliding on slide mats, half pipe, bowl, speed race, two jump slides an a big pillow air pad! awwwwesome!!!! they have lockers for rent. variety of mats to use, socks help you not slip going up steps. a place you can chill, or go do acrobat stuff. a junior slide park. just awesome! i had one of the best times going fast catching major air an breaking the rules from being a kid of sliding on your butt, to sliding on your tummy.. lol two hours is about all you really need. it gets tiring up the steps. but the ride down is amazing!!! negative of the visit- not much slide monitoring at the bottom, children stepping on smaller crash mats from slide. making a pile up of bodies. prices on board are not what patrons are actually being charged by the teenagers working the food counter- example 9$ for a slushie- a small?. when it's like six buck on the board- as an example. But honestly- the movie theaters don't charge 9$ for a small slushie. one huge no no- the kids working the counter are charging food pricing for drinks!. And i watched a girl handle raw frozen food among many other things! an never once wash her hands or wear gloves. when your sliders are going down slides, your "watchmen" should not be letting anyone go till the rider clears the mat at the bottom. some people are slower getting off the mats. we were told no back packs or bags an no outside food or drink. yet the day we went i saw allot of people with their own water bottles, drink constantly from them an store them in their rented lockers. there is not one adult over 25 working that place, as a manager- you see walking around on the floor checking on safety an employees an patrons. better management on floor, floor presence is needed!!! watched one dad verbally abuse his son for being scared. he took him in bathroom an whipped him for crying out of fear. the bathrooms were neglected by the teenagers working. about the time we were gonna get ready to leave, our food got picked up an i wasnt done with it, i watched from the top of a slide as the female kid worker took our stuff from table an threw it away. upon arrival we were told no body will touch our table till we leave, my sweatshirt was at the table signifying we were there, but we were told our stuff, food an drink are safe at table - not true. but still had a great time. don't bring anything with you into building. make sure you eat an drink before you go. an pay attention to locker pin when signing up for a locker- which is over priced for two- three hrs- should not be six bucks! it should be like 3$ for 2/3hrs. but thank you for a wonderful visit outside of the improper food handling, til skimming an lack of adult management- presence on the floor too many under 21 employees- who are not happy to be there worrying, or don't take their job seriously. Y'all need experienced, rule enforcing presence on the floor and at food counter, like the life guards at the pool- blowing whistles at those that run, or managing riders on slides. a little more structure on the floor. an get rid of your current staff. doesn't Colorado enforce food safety- like a food handlers card?- if so then why are they handling money an food all at...
Read moreThe IDEA behind Slick City is pretty cool. You pick up a mat and slide down head first on your belly on each of the slides. The slides are meant for kids, teens and even adults. A few have steep drops for the thrill seekers (yes, I braved some of these), a few are longer and slightly slower, and one is setup for racing your friends. The execution of the idea leaves much to be desired.
We went on a Saturday for a birthday party and were extremely overwhelmed. The place was insanely crowded and severely understaffed. Only 2 slides out of 9 had an employee assisting and making sure kids were being safe. All the others were completely unsupervised. There were 2-year-olds going by themselves (minimum age is supposed to be 5), kids going one after another without waiting their turn (imagine a kid landing on top of one another WWE-style), and I even witnessed a grown man sliding down on his stomach with his child riding on his back!!
There's a fun jump area where some kids decided to rip up the foam protection around the perimeter and start hitting each other with the pieces like long light sabers. Sounds harmless but several people got hurt and even after an employee came over and told everyone the foam pieces were not supposed to be messed with, kids and parents alike ignored him and started hitting each other with them again after he walked away.
The majority of the mats were in poor condition with the handles ripped off, leaving you without a good option to hold on. The safety signs on the slide landings were torn up or hanging by a thread. I was surprised at the condition of things, considering this place has only been open for 9 months.
The birthday party we attended was not well stocked by Slick City. There were not enough cups for the kids, no napkins, and no area to store your shoes that I noticed or was made aware of.
There are well-placed sanitizer dispensers around the building. Unfortunately, out of the 4 I tried to use, none of them worked.
Overall, I think this could be a fun place to play. And we did enjoy the slides we tried. But there needs to be far more supervision and better maintenance. I don't think we'll be going back anytime soon. Maybe we'll check it out a year from now to see if it has...
