Mei Yuan Chinese Cuisine — Restaurant in Lampasas

Ordered 5 different items: -Chicken Fried Rice -Combination (Chicken, Beef Shrimp) Fried Rice -Chicken with Vegetables -Jalapeño Poppers -Cheese Rangoons

Food was ok, better than a buffet style, or regular oriental style restaurant.

-Chicken Fried Rice -Combination (Chicken, Beef Shrimp) Fried Rice

The Chicken Fried Rice & Combination Fried Rice was not fried. The rice was steamed white rice with a flavored sauce on it. If it was in a pan, it was to warm sauce and rice in order to mix it up easier. Long story short, Our rice was Not Fried.

The chicken fried rice had a lot of lumps of plain white steamed rice. It was mixed in a hurry. It did have an ample amount of chicken, scrambled eggs, and green onions.... but no other vegetables (sweet peas, diced carrots) mixed in.

The combination rice had an ample amount of chicken & beef, only 4 shrimps. It had hardly any scrambled eggs and a very small amount of green onions.... but no vegetables (sweet peas, diced carrots) mixed in. It did not have white clumps, unlike the chicken steamed rice.

-Chicken with Vegetables was nothing special. It did leak all over the other food, utensils, napkins, fortune cookies. Made a heck of a message.

-Jalapeño Poppers The (apple???) bacon was lightly grilled. The 4 (supposed) Jalapeño peppers were not cooked, crunchy and did not have any heat at all. They actually tasted like cucumbers. 🤔 It was disappointing. The cream cheese filling might be the same kind in the Cheese Rangoons?

I wanted to leave a 5 star review, so I did but there is one thing that keeps bugging me when I come in here. The food is great, and the owner seems really nice.... at least to his staff. Neither he nor the kids that work there ever really address us or make us feel welcome. They usually are talking to each other and laughing while I stand there waiting. I kind of feel like I'm imposing when I walk in and awkwardly wait for someone to acknowledge that I'm there. It's happened twice - one we dined in and decided since we liked the food we'd just do take out from now on, but then got the same impression during our second takeout visit... and I'm sure it's an oversight, but it matters to a customer. I don't want to feel like I'm bugging the waitstaff by placing an order. I really want this restaurant to succeed because it's a huge blessing to Lampasas, and the food is REALLY...

Was a little skeptical when I walked in and saw the staff lol. It's just me and a food thing I have, like I don't buy Jerk Chicken anywhere in the world if I don't hear a Jamaican accent. It's just me. But let me tell you something, let me... tell... you something, that food tasted so Great, I tried to call my wife to tell her about it and ended up calling the restaurant 🤣🤣🤣🤣. It was that good. I got caught with the jalapeño Catfish n Fried rice dinner, an amazing winner. Took home a few pieces, and even my daughter, who hates Fish, gobbled it up. The chef is truly amazing. Staff was pleasant, nice clean atmosphere, delicious food and an affordable price. Can't wait to go back, I think I might drive a couple hours...
